Machineflesh 3D Challenge Entry: Michael LaGrasta

#1

Michael LaGrasta has entered the Machineflesh 3D Challenge.

#2

A clock maker specializing in extremely small mechanisms. He could greatly benefit from enhancements such as zooming microscopic vision and microfine tools integrated into his finger tips. Tools might include small screwdrivers, tweesers, spanners, light, who knows what else.

I’d just like to come right out and say that this is the second piece of 3D art that I have ever attempted. (The first one still being a work in progress.) Something about this challenge just inspired me.

Anyway, I just thought I’d let everybody know that no advice is too basic for me. I welcome it all. I’m such a beginner that I could use any help I can get.

Thanks a lot!

Mike

Thanks for the msg.

When I first read the brief then I thought of Ghost In The Shell
(if ya don’t know it - LOOK IT UP - manga film)

One of the agents in the film is a programmer and he does
this trick in a scene where his fingers split up in first two,
(20 fingers) then they split up (80 fingers), maybe more even?

then he starts typing away…

Then I got the idea for an old guy (not like the one in my sketch)
sitting in a home from the 40’s with REALLY old clocks around him
and old furniture etc. but then in the middle of the picture
a clock, really close up to the camera, which looks REALLY
high-tech and his hands with all these gizmos comming out
and working on the clock. Then I would have the big
magnifying glass so his face would look all weird.

The big challenge for me will be doing the 3D model of the face!
and possebly olso the hands. I want to make it look VERY real!

I’ve done loads of mechanics before but not manu characters.
and doing the room won’t be too hard either!

I usually do special effects though, not crisp 3D renders…
so im looking forward to this.

You can see what Im doing at work atm:

And here’s my portfolio:

Looking forward to seeing your work…
