This is gonna be fun!

A little update on the wiring for the plughead guy.
Thanks Anders, yeah I hope it will be fun. More crazy stuff in the works too. My plan is to spend another month modeling Then May will be for painting materials and finally june for scene building. Serious long haul, I hope I can hang in. Already the scene is getting out of control those plugs suck down a lot of juice. I think this scene will make my poor g4 lay down in the dust and weep for mercy.
Well I saw the great hand Anders made, so I decided it was time I got busy making a new hand. I have been dreading building a hand but it came out quite well by my standards. A great improvement over my last set of hands. Should look good on the new toy models. It took me about 2 and a half hours. No laughing guys.
LOVE the models so far, very interesting, good smoothing, basic detail, a lot of room for textures. should be wild to see it all come together in a scene⦠donāt overwhelm yourself
keep it up, awesome job
Hey thanks for the comments Shadow Seraph. I will try not and get overwhelmed, my machine might though. Since we have lots of time I am just going to go slow and build it up piece by piece. Trying to win is secondary for me, the main thing is learning some new tricks and building up some new models for my library. So I am pretty happy at the moment, since the modeling I have done thus far for this image is superior to anything I have done in the past. Hopefully I can carry that level through to rest of the work to come.

Yeap thatās exactly my friend! I thinks all of us thinking ths same and the winning is just some award for our efforts!
Itās going great so far!
Keep modeling!

Some of the tools for the plughead surgeon. In this future they still use regular tools. Plughead does all his work with tools from the local hardware store⦠the installed parts are mail ordered from a cybernetic supply company.
Yeah, they need more details. They will be located in the middle distance so I dont know how much detail will show off? I guess I will wait and see, maybe add details in the texture via bump mapping. The number of polys may start to go through the roof, so I may have to keep them simple. There are still a lot of models and things to come.

well better to work with textures details in this case (bump/displacemnt)⦠probably this will enoughā¦
hey great work soapy⦠wonderful face and the tools are really cool

Hey thanks Jdd, I appreciate you saying that. I am pretty happy with this work myself, it is a little better than anything I have done in the past in terms of modeling. So maybe I am learning somethingā¦

Same case for me⦠a challenge is always good to improove our abilties and learn something more !

Feeling lazy lately so I decided to build some easy stuff, some parts to be scattered around the scene. Rocks, body parts, screws, cast off machine parts. I have a bit of a dilemma with scale, normally my images are about toys set out on a floor with some normal objects scattered in. But some of the modeling I have done here is a bit too fine and out of scale in parts. So I may have to go back in and change some stuff. I think the screwdrivers are not toy-like enough so those will probably go through some changes. The fleshy chunks here prolly need a little work to make them more fleshy?
Looking good, soapy! And I agree ā for me this challenge isnāt about winning but having a fun ride and learning something along the way.

PS. I really like that heart of yours, by the way
DS.
Thanks Anders, its a good thing the deadline is so far away, I am really busy at the moment and will have to take some time off this project. I guess in the mean time I will just let my ideas develop until I can roll up my sleeves and get back to modeling.
Looking good manā¦the screws look great. What method did you use to create them?
Hope to see more updates soon!
Nate
Yep, I think itās looking good too, soapy. Iām working on a character now that Iāve pretty much hit the wall with. Perhaps I should model some other bits that require less ābrain powerā. You have managed to establish a āstyleā that is recognizable and that is very cool. I enjoy watching your progress.
Thanks guys.
Nwebb, the screws are just basically a cylinder with some knife edges extruded then a twist deformer applied to it. Pretty simple really. If you want to see a picture to illustrate let me know.
3D_explorer, yeah even with the contest I am always trying to work within the confines of my other work. So I build stuff for the contest that I will hopefully be able to use later on. I had to build new rocks for the contest, since I always like to throw in a few, but I am not sure if I will use them.
I think your idea of moving on to something new when you get stuck is a good one. Come back to it later, you will probably solve the problem easily.
Looks good soapy! Good idea to start off with just creating many objects, to later merge them into a complete scene, and also an advantage as you seem to want to create a complex final composition (and bloody =).
Iām subscribedā¦so I wish you the best of luck!! ![]()
I said I wouldnt get any work done this week but I found a few hours and did some work on the surgeons body and apron. Comments?
Thanks Peter, yes I like to drop the models in later on, size and pose them, then turn them off in the scene but they come up in the render.
