:buttrock: getting closer now I really like the mood, can’t wait to see the final man
Cya soon friend
Machineflesh 3D Challenge Entry: Gary Pate
Hey guys…
Been busy with work and life and stuff lately, not to mention running dramatically out of steam and my computer running out of RAM which is slowing my down a great deal =(
rattlesnake: Thanks buddy, glad you like the lighting… it should be improving much more soon. I’ve been optimising my scene to try and get it to render faster with all the lights, proving quite a chore…
Lemog: You mean the scratches in the track? Yes you are right definately. I will be addressing that shortly, thanks for pointing it out man =)
adr: Thanks man… yes there will be a lot of glows in the final comp… what can I say… I’m easily amused by bright lights… hehe…
paladin6303: Thanks man. I am trying to match that lighting in the environment. Wish me luck!
Tremoside: Hi Tremoside. Yes, I am trying to find a middle ground with the reflections. If I make it all very reflective then I think the bike will loose impact… going more more of a dull tarnished with bright highlights effect. I will update soon and you will see what I mean.
Cygnus_X: Yes, getting close… very close… I need more time, I suck at environments… they take tooo long… help!! I hope your at the finish line to catch me when I collapse… lol… Good luck mate!
arlutik: Thank you sir =)
Thank you all for your encouragement and advice as always. YOu guys rock
Update tommorrow guys, I promise…
Camera angle and object placement locked down finally. Still continuing to tweak the lighting and textures. Much to do on the effects yet.
If anyone has any opinions on the lighting, please feel free to suggest any hints, tips or suggestions… (I know you all have them!!)
I’m still not happy with the mood and will be tweaking it a lot from now until the final render.
Thank you sirs!
Sweet that is looking really cool.
Very nice indead.
Only comment and Im not sure if its actually needed but Ill say it anyway.
Maybe give the background a small motion blur just to denote the speed.
Looking really cool though

I agree. And the angle does not give us visual details
of his connection with the mashine IMO. In you previous
test renders we could see it. Just my thoughts, don’t get
me wrong Ionized…
It’s been said twice, but to reiterate: “Where did the shiny go!?”
I love it, with the little blue guy in the background, great textures, it’s great.
Ionized been a while since i been here but you are coming along extremely well, i had a look at your site and the progression you have made over the years is amazing
Also that render looks really sweet man… have you tried a night version of it, i seem to remember games like those look quite good at night with some nice neon lights placed in the right spots
Thankyou EVERYONE for your interest, and general words of wisdom. I was going to update with a shot of the track today with motion blur and fogging, but alas, the CD that I burned it on is corrupt, so tommorow I will address a lot of the concerns about the look of the track.
My PC is chugging as it renders out 5 passes of motion blur at 2200x1650 so hopefully it will be ready by tommorrow for an update.
SigFire: Thanks muchly… I totally agree. Some slight motion blur is in the works as we speak.
choptider : THANKS MAN!! =)
airworks: I admit, it has lost a lot of the charm of the earlier renders. Part and parcel of lighting an object vs lighting an entire scene. I will be rendering out a separate refelction pass and comping it over the top just to get those lovely reflections back again… as long as my PC will stop crashing on renders =)
EmpY: I have addressed some of the issues with the angle of the rider and you will hopefully see more of the interconnections into his back. Its a tossup between a dramatic camera angle and a closeup of the bike. I think I’ve found a good middleground. We’ll see tommorrow…
dagoof: Thanks mate, yeah he’s got some dude chasing him. I still plan to put in some otion trails for them both. I might just have to do them in PS though… we’ll see…
Mathiu: Thank you very much dude =) Glad you like it!! I have darkened up the track a little and added some blue fogging in the background… which is currently rendering… doh!! Check back tommorrow to see the results.
Thanks guys… it so close, I hope I can finish in time. Its been an epic in the making and everyone has excelled themselves with their work… definately the best challenge yet.
Thanks for all your support and comments, I couldnt’ have done it without them…

looking very cool, it could be a cover for a speed racer game ;p
are u gonna add motion blur?
and the result…
Still not sure the angle for the bike is correct for this shot. I might revert to a slightly more front on shot.
Also intending to change the colour of the suit back to yellow or red and to tone down the motion blur on the background some more.
So much to do still…
I like your results!!! Will you add some smoke effects behind the machine? Anyway it will be amazing !!! Go go go for the final!!!
Hi …
I was busy to finish my entry thats why it took a bit longer to
have a glance again over your cool bike …
still very nice … hey …so you are going to change the suit maybe to yellow again ? …good choice …( I think I told you longer ago the same thing :wip: ) … anyhow … the background is very good and it shows a lot of speed … I wouldnt go down with the motion blur on it … I have some formula one pics which have almost the same blur as you have it …
even the angle … i like it like this …
what I allways like and what might look cool on your bike is when it leaves a bit of a “beam trail” … ala tron … but not so long …
however … you must finish it and there is not so much time to make big changes … your entry is very nice … and I am still impressed with the nice bike design …
I hope that you manage it and I wish good luck to you …

AMAZING MAN! How about some under carriage lighting and light streaks? It seems like your crafts are capable of extremely fast speed man. One of the best! :buttrock:
