Machineflesh 3D Challenge Entry: Gary Pate

I have a few questions: what is there to rig, and are you planning on perhaps animating this later on? I think this character needs too be seen in motion to be truly appreciated.

#102

Well I’m planning to rig the rider up so he can move and lean a bit aswell as rig the bikes air brakes and rear engine housing. I’m also thinking of rigging the pipes up so that they compress and stretch when the hinged arm on the bike moves. Havn’t done anything quite that complex before, so it should be interesting =)

Wow, cool vehicle mate!
I’d like to have one of this in the future!

Keep on, you are doing a great job here!

#104

This style is really stunning!!!:applause:

This could be in Exposé3:beer:

#105

I found an entry I havent visited, and wow, its good!
I like your stile. A little cartoonish alost, with all the effects and the clean lines of the modelling.

Looking really good. One thing that might make it look cooler, try backlighting it. Just some really bright lights and/or reflection cards above and behind the object pretty mutch always makes things look better. One general thing that strikes me is that it doesn’t have many of the functional, utilitarian details that you would see in a real piece of machinery; straps, belts, exhaust/ heat vents, maitainance access panels, fuel/power sockets. And personal items/customisation left by the owner, like how the bike in Akira is covered in stickers & insignia, and the seats in Alien are all worn and patched up with sticky tape. I like the idea of putting in incidental details like these, but perhaps that’s no help at this late stage, and perhaps that’s not the style you were going for anyway.
Best of luck!

to all: Thanks a lot for all your comments guys, It’s really apreciated. It great to be getting feedback from such talented artists.

mikepol |3D| hehe, maybe one day we will be riding around on things like these but not oo soon I think =)

Saschi0815: Ha!! Such high praise. Thanks. Well, we’ll see when expose 3 submissions come around then I might send it in… Hang on, I better get it finished first…hehe… working

Isabelle: Thanks =) Yeah it is a little cartoonish. I was kind of going for a final fantasy level of realism, or maybe it just turned out that way…

essencedesign: Thanks man, I really dig your work, such lovely detailed machinery!

gjpetch: Backlighting you think? OK, I’ll give it a shot and see. What exactly do you mean by reflection cards? I’ve never heard of that before. I’d like to try it out…

I think you might be right about the smaller customised details too. I don’t think it’s too late to add some of these in. It’s kind of hard to remain objective when I’ve been staring at it for so long but perhaps some more detail could be justified here and there. I dont want it to get too ‘personalised’ though as it might detract from the clean futuristic style. Certainly some more decals could work nicely… ok…

Thanks for your honest crits =)

@ Thanks everyone, you are all doing such great work, I appreciate the support. I’ll update soon with some mockups for the final composition…

#109

Made a start on the environment. Futuristic city scape with a giant racetrack running though it.

#110

WOW great line, the composition is fantastic:thumbsup: You got a very dynamic image. That’s gonna be awsome man keep the good comming:bounce: Cya soon mate:beer:

#111

I think this environment will be great…

I imagine with some rockets behind him that approach to shoot it…

I wait the final scene

Oh, just white self illuminated planes. Real studio lighting is often done with lights behind big square diffusing screens. Reflection cards are an attempt to get those nice bright square reflections you see in studio lighting.

#113

you owe me some new underwear, cause I just peed a little.

#114

wow, this is realy going to be great.i love the concept and i think it’s better not to put some rockets and war elements on her/it.cause there are plenty of images here and there like that.

keep uploading man.i’m waitng
:applause: :bounce:

#115

the first thing I thought was how your scene would look if the background was motionblurred.
Maybe you want to try it.

#116

Rotational view of the bike with a hint to the style of lighting in the final comp

#117

Thanks everyone for your continued support and great ideas… this is turning out to be a great challenge indeed…

Cygnus_X: Cheers, thanks bro. Definately want to get a strong sense of motion in the final comp. Glad you think it works =)

Lemog: Not sure about rockets, but I plan on putting another rider in there persueing him like they are racing or something…

gjpetch: OK, I know what you mean now… like those square window like refections you see in everything… so thats how they do it… cheers, thanks for the tip, I’ll give it a go…

dagoof: clean that up man… dont be pissing in my thread… hehehe… lol

kmest: Yeah, its definately not a war machine. I’ve modelled too many dudes with guns… time for something less violent… =)

Kromm: Definately going to motionblur some stuff… either the background or the cycles… not sure yet. They will also likely have some sort of motion trail behind them… (thanks dagoof) so that will give them a sense of speed…

God damn… still got soooo much to do…

:wip:

#118

Definitly great works in here:thumbsup: Really clean presentation for your last post, I like it really much. we can see every details of your piece. Keep going mate

#119

Cool looking model man.

Sir, you’d better place in this contest or I’ll kill myself. This is not only unlike all the “Human with wires sticking out”, but it’s a great concept, brought to life by a brilliant modeller.

Best of luck [not that you need it]
