Machineflesh 3D Challenge Entry: Gary Pate

#61

Wow this looks fantastic! Perhaps when you get to the texturing part you could have writing on the screens protecting his face, and maybe some stickers and such on the bike. I’m loving every part of this so far  I"m definitly subscribing to this thread!!

#64

That is a kickass picture i must say. I like it so far. Does anyone know how that blue transparent texture was made? It is awesome looking.

#65

reallly nice work man:surprised the feet looks good and the suit great too, i really love the design youre doing here, and love the way youre doing mechanical parts, sorry i have no good advices, just good thaughts for your work… keep on rocking!! :buttrock:

#66

that looks cool ion. i always liked tron

but maybe he should be even more connected to the machine. after all its machineflesh. why does he need feet if riding this bike is not just a part time job? i liked the version where the feet where more attached to the bike… … just some thoughts.

great modeling. i also like the basic coloring - even if it is just temporary.

Hey all!! Thanks heaps for your interest guys. It makes it all the hard work worthwhile. I havn’t updated much recently as I’ve been working on my showreel of late, so the bikes sort of on the back burner. I promise to update soon though!!

Shaykai: Yeah, I’m definately going to keep a minimalist clean style with some small logos or racing team decals. Yep and animated hud dials and stuff on the windscreen/hologram (havn’t decided which yet…)

jribbe1: Its using a mental ray transparency shader with a glow shader as the input and parallel falloff as the transparency. Glow shaders work great with falloff maps I’ve discovered. You can use them with fresnel to get a sort of edge lighting effect and with shaded/lit for things like skin or to just add some extra pop to just about anything. Just try sticking them in different slots and see what happens.

Shouit: Thanks =) Yep, I’m working on some feet clamps at the moment. They wont be as integrated at the hands, but he will definately be more integrated into the bike as a result.

Hey thanks for the info on how to do that. I put that in as you said but could not apply the material to the object. Do i need to put it under a shader like blinn, phong, etc. would you mind posting a screenshot of your settings or emailing me one. That material is awesome. i have started to fiddle with the glow shader. Thanks

#69

Here is what i got so far playing around with the settings.

#70

That’s mighty badass. Mental ray? Brazil? i must know what it is.

#71

hey what an iteresting page I found. your design is really dynamic. Figure’s connection with the machine is fine too.
