My 1st competition… My 1st ever post… So I hope you like the work.

I’m trying to create a Imperial Guard from Atlantis. The idea is that the civilisation is still thriving today. And the people have changed to take on lizard type features. They use metal combined with bone to create their meachinical armour and diving equipment. But still have a mythical Greek/Roman Look.

Just an update of todays modeling…

#4

Hi,

nice sketch you made there. I am really looking forward to see the final 3d model. Keep going…

#5

Welcome to the contest thirstydevil
Cool and nice idea.
It is well starting

#6

Thanks guys.

theuni - Thats the hardest thing for me. To keep going. I usually have 3-4 things I want to do and start them all at once. Then switch between them all. Things can take ages that way. This will be the only one for now…

harnelbe - Thanks. Your work is looking v-cool too. I wouldn’t know where to start on something that complex

anyway back to it…

Cheers

David

Rob

The Head is finished for now… Although I’m adding detail around the cheeks( like the sketch ). If I get time there will be wrinkles modelled in. Now for the Body…

#11

A close up. Not happy with the eyes so if you have any tips that would be great. Now where was I… oh the body.

#12

Oh yeah!!

The best thing in a WIP challenge is that you have the opportunity to see how the modelers brain works.

The evolution from your early wip to this one shows that you know what ure doing and ure doing it right:)

keepit up squifozzo!!!

Cheers Loggie. But swearing at me in portuguese!! come on! Lol

Just so you guys know I work with this guy. He’s an amazing modeler as you may already know. I was an animator for 18mnths and hired at Digi-Guys (Pinewood Studios)… But I haven’t had many chances to animate recently. Cos I’m interested in all 3d and art. I’ve done alot of HD surface modeling.

Then this guys shows up and has inspired me to model characters properly. A great plus for a animator.

So where’s that bai raitt video again???

More post tonight or 2morrow. Hopefully

Hey mouldster,
looking good fella. Re the eyes- I suppose it depends on how far away from being pure human you want the character to go. For a regular human, I think your eye sockets are maybe a bit harsh and too defined, particularly underneath, where it connects to the cheek.

Have a look in the mirror and see what I mean- in humans its not defined so deeply.

On the other hand, If thats the desired look you want, then as it develops, maybe add scales or some other fish-like feature to perpetuate the atlantis feel.

cool face model!

only crit: I think forehead is a bit soft in expression.

KEEP IT UP:buttrock:

Well as promised a start on the body modeling. Never done a realistic human body before. Always been low pol or cartoon characters. So this is an exploration as much as anything. Trying to get the poly loops to define bone then muscle. But… Proportions are off. Stick with us and I’ll sort it soon. 2morrow I hope.

Cheers Guys.

Rob - Thanks for the pointers. I had orignialy wanted the cheek bone over developed and to have boney ridges on it. To much Star Trek I guess. So thats why the lower lid has that hard edge where it meets the cheek. I haven’t developed it to far yet just in case I decide it looks crap and have to go back.

Your right tho. It is wrong… but could be right. I’ll have to see in the end.

Wow I’m on a second page. I feel like a real CGTalk forum guy now. he he

Cheers

Haven’t done much in the last month on any home work. To busy as usual with work and life etc. So had a play with it last night (LOL) and heres the result. Hopefully I can complete this before the end of the submittion deadline. And most importantly get the machine bits in it.

Keep well

Dave
