I’m a rookie. That being said, my hope is to get some feedback, try and work with this and see what i come up with.

Here’s the initial concept sketch.

The idea is techno-archane. Technology comes in many forms. All come from traditions. One chooses the organic route, defining the world according to mystical energies that are understood and taught through vague and unquantifiable oral traditions. The other is cold and clinical, prefering to allow the gods to speak through power sources, grease, axles and steel.

[i haven’t decided yet if the mystic practitioner is a he or she yet…]

#3

initial idea was to do a cyber guy with a big arm.

[i just saw hellboy! WOO!!]

of course a bit of thought went into the logistics of a dude trying to carry an arm at least twice the size of his normal arm… which would require reinforcment on the ribcage…

and then i just thought it was silly unless it was made of some serious polymers…

and besides… everyone is going to do it.

so perhaps common sense got the better of me and i decdied against it in favour of the above…

#4

hrm… have to edit this post because i uploaded a different image.

oh well.

so after thinking it through even further if your going to do cybernetics, you might as well just nix flesh altogether… which is NOT the point of this challenge… no need for meat in this case. I probably coulda just did a picture of this hanging off a meat hook. that’dve been appealing.

#5

so in reality this is the SECOND of the series of concepts before i settled on the VERY top image…

the first image i thought about was the arm… then i progressed to this image… and then i progressed to the idea of full body cyber.

and of course the end one because what would be the point in having flesh anymore unless you NEEDED it for something silly like arcane arts.

ah… .which brings me to a minor explaination of this image…

of course it took me a little while to get off the direction of “big cyber guy with arm”

because once i got to thinking about reinforcment on the ribcage, well of course he’d need legs to pull him around

but ultimately in building a cyber guy, what a total waste of resources… who needs that much bulk… i’d rather be a stump…

perhaps not.

:stuck_out_tongue:

#6

definitely decided she’s a lady. need to start worrying about the “arcane elements” and “Techno elements” of the background soon…

but mostly concentrated on the face for now…

#7

Nice job! I like the girl better too. I also like how you moved her from staring straight at us to about a 7/8 frontal. That says a lot more than the first drawing. Good luck!

#8

hrm… can anyone tell me some good tutorials on how to go further with the colouring?.. suppose i’ll figure it out in the next few days…

#9

i really ought to sleep more… but here’s something…

just playing around… wish i knew more as to what i was doing with photoshop…

#10

revised the hand… i just liked the idea of symmetry. pah. i dunno. a little dodging… yes i know its a bad choice… ought to add colour instead of tone… later.

#11

Your work is really coming along, dig the line work very crisp. Dodging can give you quite a nice effect if you use it on certain things like skin tone, so don’t give up on the dodging

Really looking cool

#12

Hey bud, It’s looking real good. My vote is for adding color and tone, not just tone. Eventhough I like the dodge and burn tool, I use it sparringly, it sometimes leaves a character looking lifeless and plastic. Your work is one to watch. Keep it coming:thumbsup:

#13

ae SELVAGEMMMMM DO CARALHO…

nice work so far buddy…
keep on going…wanna see that stuff done…

:buttrock: :buttrock: :buttrock:

yeahhhhhh…

in terms of coloring try not to get trapped into the ‘coloring book’ mentality of doing it peice by peice. Try sticking your colors on a multiple layer and just start splashing color around. Try working with dark colors first, then build up areas of light to define your forms. don’t worry about details at all, just try to get some nice loose strokes and colors happening. Keep going man, your sketches show potential.

cheers!

#15

lessee… lowered the arms, tried some blurr on them… not terribly sure how effective that was, but i think if i have any problems with it later, it shouldn’t be too hard to correct… did ALOT of detailing on the face although it might not show here… because i went through 3 different files… [always remember to SAVE with good name conventions when you think your making progress… i DIDN’T remember)… and i’m thinking a bit about the costume… am i bored of it? do i want more… i’m kind of annoyed at the pose… gonna have some green or blue flames around the hands…

something nice and glowstick like… and i PROBABLY should’ve done the background first, but what the hey… i’m still learning workflow…

did i mention i’m a rookie?

this is really the first time i’ve really played with photoshop like this…

btw if you like it and are a person of influence for the love of god hire me…
willing to work for room and board… :stuck_out_tongue:

#16

well… what can i say… i been killing myself trying to find a workflow on the colouring. i think i’ve finally done it. naturally in between all this, i had a whole bunch of WIP pieces that just looked like ass… and then suddenly, i started working on this file today and felt i had it going on.

wierd.

all this and i broke up with a girl…

:frowning:

[ah yes… forgot to mention that i decided to change the face back to the head on direction… i dunno… part of me liked the original pose for the upper body]

I still have to resolve the lower half of her now… mb i’ll go back to line art on that. also i’m finding that the technology end of it is starting to overpower everything. i still want that aspect of occult in there so i suppose later on i’ll start rendering on another layer a necklass of ears or mini skulls or something…

this is probably taking longer than it should. [keep telling yourself it’ll take half the time next time]

FEEDBACK PLEASE!

#17

still getting a feel. i kind of understand now after playing a bit with the layers how its silly to play with details when you could fudge it all with layers and make it look better in the process.

at any rate, changed the pose… think i’m settling on this one…

[yes i know its kinda bad that i changed it at all in the first place… but the initial drawing wasn’t detailed enough [know that now] to set down a good pose… whatever… fine now… .i’ll know better for next time]

#18

fleshed out some of the details… just realized now i have to darken up some points on [her perspective] right shoulder or arm… but otherwise. developing nicely i think.

next thing i plan to do is finish fleshing out the legs [boots?.. mmmm tasty kneehighs mb]… and then on to background with the whole techno-mystic lab of hers…

mb i’ll change the skirt to skin tight pants or something… pah. i dunno yet.

#19

haven’t really been doing much lately… got busy with life.

:frowning:

but all good… i think i’m done banging most of her main attributes out… now for the legs and fixing these big crazy things on her back in terms of colour…

i think i’ll put a big cowskull in behind her…

thats sufficiently tribalistic for the theme…

either that or a whole bunch of mini minions with evil grins crowding up behind her…

gotta think about it…

#20

very odd… i seem to have lost some posts n’ stuff related to this… and replies…

[thats disappointing]

oh well… sort of makes me look better in some ways but to tell you the truth this has all fallen to the wayside for $$$ in my case… i’ve done a little retouching… matching colour to face as suggested by a friend. i’ve also been considering from HERE as a transition to maybe play around with the creature elements a bit… mb move them higher up or shrinking them or something for the sake of composition.

hrmhrm… but i’m a bit happier with the pose.

dammit… its too bad i lost all those replies… thats so disappointing…
