 Yeah well they sort of called for line work, and to be honest I wouldn’t normally take it that far as I tend to like to draw with colour too, figured the fish wasn’t so important just now so I’ll finish him in colour.
By the way what’s up with your entry that first sketch blew me away, I want to see more :bounce:

@ bonestudio :

Edit: good point with the arm/clothing comment, I’ll keep an eye on that!

#124

your line art is very cool! and I know your color skill is great too! can’t wait to see more:bounce:

#125

fp , sir… you’re so good that if you’re posting something
like a smudgy blue background … you lettin us down or
just wanted to post something ?

though I gotta admit it still looks good , kinda like a
handkrchief ,unless you were just blotching carelessly
(which is what I do) ,and then you would become
an olive

k, it just looks good but I wanna see more

#126

I’m really liking your stuff. It’s good to hear that someone else is still using Painter 6.

No…not really, this is a WIP contest after all, the intention being as I understand it that we show each other more or less how we work. Laying down these colours is for “me” a first and important step, and has an effect on how I colour the main elements, not trying to disappoint anyone.

@ SideAche Yep painter 6 more or less does what I want so I’ve sort of stayed with it, same with photoshop which I am also still using in the 6 version, I am going to have to update them soon though sadly, as I’d rather like to use them on my G5.

P.S. “very much” like your workflow on your pictures too

#128

ahh , well said dude:bowdown:

#129

starting into the fleshy bits, here’s a detail this time.
cheers.

#130

Neato! Nice to see it more up close too…

Let me see if I get this correctly - being a 2D challenged guy  - this would more or less correspond to the low-level layer of diffuse color, simply the raw, rudimentary lit (more or less) basic color of the intended material itself? With some occlusion going on though - - - kind of a colour blocking phase - and then the rest of the stuff comes on top later on, like highlights, detailed shading etcetera?

Sorta?

#131

yep “sorta”, some detail has been added to the head, but yeah the rest I suppose you could say is blocking.

#132

Wabbit satisfied with reply and hops away (a bit heavily today because of all the eggs - dreading the time they have to be pooped out, which is soon)…

#133

Eeeeeuuuwwwww, that’s the last egg I’ll be eating, thanks James. :surprised

Yia yia…the head look awesome…and the flesh thing`s really starting to look like flesh…about coloring this piece, i was thinking about what color things under water have…but close up i gues skin actually have skincolor…or??
Maybe it depends on how deep the water is…

Funny you should mention that I was initially going for a more greyed out colour tone, then the red starting creeping, just feeling my way through this at the moment, so it’s open to change.

Isnt this sweet?
…thinking this one is about 6-7 feet down

#138

Nice start on the colouring. I cant’ wait to see more!

#139

Thanks vincent_v , although that my be a bit too grey, I was kind of thinking more Walrus myself, I’ll be bringing the background colours back in in places too, all still very open at the moment.

@ pinokeo I’d have some doubts about that myself but thanks

@ AirbORn I’m working on it but in the meantime I’ve a few other things to finish before I’ll have time to continue, sadly.

thanks guys.

Looking very nice. Well nice might not be the best word cause I hope I never meet that guy when I go swimming, hehe.

I like your colors and that you’re able to mix many to get your skin tone. Since you have caught some nice greens in your flesh tones, you may want to throw a little more green into all of that blue and I think it will get more the feeling of water and that he is in the water and not just in front of it.
