Machineflesh 2D Challenge Entry: Brian Read

Thanks AirbORn, just not quite happy myself with the composition there’s time so I’d like to see if I can improve it a bit, then I’ll look at doing some more colour work.

cheers

:buttrock: regarding the composition: what if the guy is coming at us, arms infront, ready to grab the “thing” he’s after. Kind of like a tiger jumping at his prey. This would fill the top of the frame- put him at an angle- and at the bottom, kind of blurred, the pry, with a scared expression…
Just a thought- it’s great now the way you have it anyway.

#83

thanks tedjel, trouble is the more I turn him into the camera the more detail I’ll be covering up with his upper body which would be sort of counterproductive, for that reason I’m trying to stay as side on as possible. What I am thinking is pulling that tail towards the top left corner, I had conceived it as being flexible so it shouldn’t look to strange,
and maybe banking his upper body slightly so that is left shoulder drops down – not sure if that’s clear.

If that doesn’t work I can always try filling in a bit of the negative space with some colour work

#84

lot of energy in that last composition !

Perhaps you could add more perspective to the scene, like the creature come to us, with the mouth open this could be quite frightening

Hi, Brian: I like the last pose; it’s very dynanic. But I also liked the older version, it ressembles fossiles; it would’ve been a nice idea to render it in that way, like carved int stone. For the new pose, I would put it a long long thin curled tail; it may be very helpfull for the composition. Don’t you think the torso is a bit confusing- still not clear the design?
On the other hand, the creature is great, and very original. I can’t wait to see colour wip’s.

 He he, not quite 100% no

To be honest I liked the fossil look too, just that I am still not sure about the final format this has to be presented in which is why I’m trying to fit him into a portrait format as well (just in case).
It’s all making for good practice anyway.

Really dig your style can’t wait for the final image

Good luck

You know what?

After looking at your last drawing once again, the combination between the flesh and machince components, they really do sit well together. Just though I’d comment on that aswell. :bounce:

Thanks AirbORn  .
In the meantime I think I may just have thought of a way to get a slight bit of humour into this as well, I’ll get into that later though.

Cheers

About the size, I found in the Questions Thread this:

My image size is actually 3796x6220.
I read somewhere that it must be 3636x2675 or 2675x3636.
If this is exact, i must change my image size and composition to fit the correct size, no?

Yes.

So, It seems you can make it in portrait or in landscape format… It’s up to you, but whatever you choose It will be great

About the last image, I would prefer more perspective too…

Love your line work bud. Very inspiring!!!

i really like the swimming thing in such an active pose, the way you’ve drawn it gives a real feel of movement, and makes the machine parts look really part of the body.

love your style of drawing too

It’s correct

Actually I think I can get away with the portrait, but thanks, I’m in the process of doing a colour test on that sketch but are going a bit slow at the moment (it is the weekend  ) , next week may well be full too ( will find that out Monday) so it could be a while until the next update.

Get on to yours though I am dying to know what this third sick character will be. :bounce:

It’s colour and it’s a WIP so I guess it counts as a milestone, although I am still not to 100% sure with the pose I don’t find so bad anymore now that colour has been added. I have however decided to go with this concept though.
Would love to hear your thoughts.

Cheers

Looking good. The pose works very well, and I’d say a little bit of that fossil sense from the landscape version is back in again too.
