For the final pose and view… I picture it like he has just been swimming away from the “camera”, but he picks up your scent in the water, turns around, and rushes speedily straight at you - do you see his long body sort of making an arc through the image?
Machineflesh 2D Challenge Entry: Brian Read
Hey guys thanks for the reply’s.
@MadMim: I hadn’t thought that far yet, but I do like the idea. so I’ll have a play with that, thanks.
@Virtuoso: “Many many thanks” I really appreciate the compliment, cheers
@JamesMK and mosconariz
I’ll be seeing just how dynamic a pose I do/can make with this, I do not want to lose to much detail through a “too” dynamic pose, actually as far as I understand the brief the pose is kind of irrelevant it’s the design and the play between flesh and machine that should have the emphasis (that is at least my interpretation) , still I see what I can come up with, I’m enjoying this
Cheers,
Brian
I like the hippo!!
bUt then i would…i really liked the umbrella on your big desert fella.
But i also like t’other one…The tail particularly and the flippers are great. They look like mechanical versions of real amphibious or sea creatures.
I think the head could possibly be longer or taller. It seems to be a bit abrupt (i’m not trying to get you back to the longer hippo version, honest!!). And if you say it’ll walk on land too, it seems too dense to turn 90 degrees if he’s stood upright.
It’ll be good to some more poses…looking great so far…
Yaaaayy!! a vote for the hippo
:bounce:
Thanks for the points on the head too I was planning to try a few things with that. Also thinking about increasing the fromnt arm length and hand size slightly.
As to his movement on land I as thinking on all 4 hands/feet so no upright stance, the tail would get in the way.
cheers
The colour version is great , also your design is marvelous .
Those legs seem real functional ~

Hi, FlyingP! First of all, thanx for your feedback; your oppinion is very important to me, you help me alot with my concepts. So this is my turn, … Since the very first time I loved your first idea of the battery dino; I see you’ve evolved into a different way. OK, it is also nice. I it very nice to see the evolution of your concepts from the hippo to this taily weird thing (wich I do Looove). IMO, you’re reaching to a very interesting character, mixing so many concepts on it.
Thanks hdri and hope I wasn’t too hard in my critic before just those first sketches of yours are DAMN COOL!.
I’ve really been appreciating all the feedback from you guys as well, so keep em coming.
Cheers,
Brian

Excellent work flyingP. My personal favorites are the first and last. I can see in your work that you really love this stuff, love of drawing I mean. I’m still fairly new to this place and it’s great to see work that has a lot of personality. I’m looking forward toseeing the paint process.
Same here: The first and last are excellent!!!![]()
I struggle between both of them. Love both and both have there pros and contras… damn my feeble brain:D
Cheerz:beer:
Thanks guys, I will be going with the last one though I think, unless I just happen to think of anything better that is.
As to the love of drawing SideAche with this sort of material definitly.
Thanks guys, I will be going with the second one though I think, unless I just happen to think of anything better that is.

EDiT: sorry for the double post guys
You have some very funny design here ! Lots of differnet stuff yet.
I’m curious of what will be your final choice
Very good stuff—
Have to dive into all the other entries, but I like the grain of humor in them.
Love the first one, its my favourite—
Would be nice in 3d–I know I know

Don’t suppose if anyone knows if these entries can be in Landscape format do they. Doesn’t matter I’ll try and fit this guy to a into a portrait format, still needs a bit of work until I’m happy with it though. All the same an update. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Cheers.
You know I would love to find something to complain about, but it’s just so insanely beautiful I’m getting all teary-eyed over here (honestly - it’s f***ing brilliant!)
Now be gone, evil one!
Great stuff! Can’t wait to see the one you settle on to finish! Keep it up bud:applause:
Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback.
I am however still not quite so happy with the pose at the moment myself, And I am still giving some thought to my first concept, so if I can get a composition on our friend here with flippers that I am happy with, I think I might just go back and take that first concept a bit further before making any “real” final decision.

Dude, your last drawing is great. I love the composition! When will you start on colour again?
