Are you going to leave the textures like that? I’d add some nice scuffing to the edges to make it look more interesting. It’d also add to the realism.
M4A1 Hard surface WIP
My plan is to make several versions for the materials. this is kind of a base finish for how it would come out of the box before use. eventually I hope to do a couple of different camo versions to fit different weapons and a dirt map for each one. when that’s done I’l do a Vray version of each.
decided to leave this here and return to it later as I’m hungry to work on new pieces and I have a non overlapping setup to make it easy to go in and paint new materials when I feel like it.
Hmmmm, if you ask me, I’d suggest finishing this one up before moving onto other things. The problem with leaving something half finished and moving onto another project is that it often ends up with the project never being finished. Trust me, I’ve seen it happen a thousand times before on this forum…
I do see your Point and I used to start a lot more models than I finished when I was younger but these days I find it easier to put something down for a while and give me eyes a break from looking at it. plus its a luxury I don’t have when I’m working so I like to make the most of it on personal projects.
Work is really picking up for me so I’ve had less time than I wanted to focus on this but I have managed to get the lower receiver almost completed along with a few other details.
I’ll be making a final modelling pass on it in the next few days by adding normal maps for engravings and things like that.
after this I’d like to take another look at making some better materials for the holographic sights before moving onto the Upper Receiver.
Nice work.
Though if you are making an M4A1 then you are missing a hole in the lower
Current config depicts a semi AR15 as it’s missing the vital pin hole for the auto parts. An M4A1 also has a pin hole above the selector hole.
thanks for letting me know your totally right.
I’ll make these changes first in my next session.
I’ve finished the damaged worn version of the Eotech sights and will be moving back to the weapon now.

I’ll probably make some more alterations before calling it finished as I think the worn areas are a little too bright and intense.
Looking forward to getting some feedback
Finally have the modelling of the weapon complete and now working on some realistic V-ray materials.
Not quite there but starting to like the way its looking. have a two layered blend with a shiny steel underneath and a separate paint layer on top and I’m manually blending them to create a worn used look for the weapon.
Taking a break from it for the next week but hope to finish off the materials and produce some high quality renders when I return.
