Dagon’s shield non optimized!

Conceptual model for study, material for study

That is my question:

Do you think I should be improving something? There is something that is not artistically working fine in my shield?

Nice shield design! I like it. I’m not too sure what the white parts are supposed to be though. Are they supposed to be glowing? That could be cool for the eyes.

Overall, I think this “worn/rusted” metal material could work but I find it’s too symmetrical right now. If it’s wear and tear, it seems a bit odd that it’s worn identically on both sides like that.

It could be interesting to try adding another type of metal for variety. Maybe keep this one for the face area and try a more grey metal for the border? That could look interesting and would add some contrast between the shapes. It would make the face stand out more since right now everything kinda blends together.

Also, I would say that from a “practical” sense, it feels like there’s a gap at the bottom of the shield (below the face) that leaves a pretty big opening. But it does look kind of cool like that so I would just leave it

Thanks JValdes

Your feedback was very well appreciated, quite concise and correct.

Very, very thanks!

Exactly!!! It should be a animated glowing effect. Unfortunately I did not get this effect in sketchfab. I was able to get a better effect within the unreal engine using glow and panner to animate a shimmering effect. I’ll try to use jewelry for this style, like emeralds and rubies, just to give a better effect in sketchfab.

Indeed the idea of being rusted and worn is the condition that it would be a submerged object in the depths of the ocean for thousands years.

I agree with the symmetry problem. Thank you for noticing it.

It was a work for a game development course. The idea was to import it into unreal engine, then apply decal effect to bypassing this horrible symmmetry. I used a mirrored UV to save more space. But for sketchfab preview I will try to avoid this technique a little more.

Thank you, I liked very much the idea to contrasting using different material type in the shield, “…a more grey metal for the border”, I like grey, beyond the skull iron-gold material. This will break the monotony in the composition. I’m working on a new one. In this one I’m using bone material in the horns.

You gave me a new great idea, I could try to change the ornaments on the shield base for tentacles as a reference to Cthulhu.

JValdes, Thankful
This community is giving me an excellent impression, and you are quite professional!
