Position Title: Technology Development Lead

Division: Lucasfilm Animation (U.S.)

Job Purpose:

The Technology Development Lead is responsible for the development and integration of technology used in the production of animation for film and television. This position works closely with key creative and production staff in the ongoing development of the production pipeline by advising on advances and best practices in animation technology in conjunction with evaluating, determining and implementing the strategy for the use of technology in production.

Primary Responsibilities:

[li]Responsible for the supervision of Animation Research and Development staff including: determination of work procedures and priorities, recruitment, career development, performance evaluation, counseling and discipline. Supervises employees to ensure effective communication and achievement of expectations and project deliverables, while integrating productions’ requirements and employees’ personal goals.

[li]Acts as technical advisor to senior management, and production management regarding computer graphics and animation technology.
[/li]
[li]Partners with the Head of Technology on implementation of the strategy and the configuration of technology underlying the production pipeline. Partners with CG Supervisors to integrate technology into production as well as define strategic solutions for animation production.
[/li]
[li]Participates in production planning and budgeting.
[/li]
[li]Partners with Managing Technical Supervisor, CG Supervisors and Training to oversee the setup and standardization of production procedures.
[/li]
[li]Partners with Information Technologies, Systems and Post Production departments in the development of integrated production pipeline solutions.
[/li]
[li]Provides project management to include: sets priorities, allocates resources, schedules projects, designs software, enacts software coding standards and project development procedures, and tracks design through implementation. Ensures that documentation is maintained on all systems, development and implementation of software.

[li]Works with Managing Technical Director and CG Supervisors to ensure that production-specific software needs are met. Participates in pre-production planning as well as regular status meetings. Assesses needs and manages the infrastructure to facilitate all internal software development.
[/li]
[li]Supervises the tracking of bug reports and requests for feature enhancements to vendor and internal software applications. Prioritizes and allocates resources to facilitate resolution.
[/li][/ul]Experience:
[ul]
[li]Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Graphics required. Master’s level preferred and/or PHD desired.
[/li]
[li]5+ years computer graphics production experience including 2+ years experience leadership/management of software or technology team. Minimum 3 years experience in developing computer graphics software applications, either commercial or proprietary. Must be knowledgeable in, or have end-user experience in a broad spectrum of computer graphic techniques (modeling, rendering, animation, compositing, etc.).

[li]Must have significant scheduling and project management experience.
[/li]
[li]Must have the ability to juggle multiple projects, work with diverse personalities and work within strict deadlines.
[/li]
[li]Experience with large-scale production pipelines for visual effects or animation required.
[/li]
[li]Demonstrable successful experience in either film or television production is required. Experience in both film and television is highly desirable
[/li]
[li]Demonstrated organizational, project management and leadership skills. Strong communication skills (written and verbal). Proven ability to work effectively with all levels of management.
[/li]
[li]Strong people management skills as would be developed in 2+ years of team management responsibility. Ability to foster a work environment that is both demanding and motivates employees to maintain creative standards and achieve time and budget objectives. Interest in developing new and emerging creative talent in employees.
[/li]
[li]Ability to establish priorities and multi-task efficiently within a high-pressure environment while meeting strict deadlines. Ability to work in a start-up environment that has a certain degree of ambiguity.
[/li][/ul]Additional:

This position will require significant travel (up to 50% in the first year and 25% following that) and by accepting this role the incumbent accepts this job requirement.
