lofting...

does anyone know how i would do lofting with more than 2 curves, (ala lightwave skin) in modo? and when i bridge 2 curves , how do i set the divisions to less than the default number ?

thx

Hi

I only know that the divisions is controlled in the “tool properties” during the active tool.

robert, i know abuot the segments in the tool properties but even when it is set at 1 segment it still makes tons of segments in between the bridge. :frowning:

Not sure what problem you’re having exactly - the segments field (or just dragging after you click) should set the number of segments in a bridge.

Here’s a little video if it helps any.

IMO - modo isn’t ideally suited to the lofting style of modeling. You can’t adjust your control curves or segments after you bridge them. If you use the patch tool and ‘extend’ and ‘move knots’ you have a little more control - but when you drop the tool it’s all done. So I don’t know. Good luck I guess : )

nice video… i seen where he was changing the segments (the horizontal lines) but what i want to change is those vertical segments. also notice how he had to bridge only 2 curves at a time? then he use a macro to do the rest… i want to select all curves and skin/loft them. maya and lightwave can do that easily. why cant modo ???

That’s just not in the cards for modo yet. You can’t change UV param. like w/ Nurbs either - the number of ‘verticle’ segments is a function of your curve refinement level (right click on the layer - it’s a on a per layer basis).

So yeah - sorry but you’re kinda sol at this point with Modo, I suggest you visit the Luxology forums and submit a feature request. They really focused on the sub-d modelling type of tools in this release and lofting kind of got left out.

edit: did you try the patch tool yet? If you draw your curve, select patch tool in the curve tab, under modo select ‘extend’ (grab a blue handle a pull) - you can adjust your UV segments with the perpindicualr / parallal fields. You can also switch the mode over to move edge/move knot to adjust your shape - and edit edge to add knots.

Instead of drawing your curves first you would extend, adjust, extend again, adjust again - etc. Or patch with 4 curves and close them up later.

thx leuey, i tried those alternative methods…what a pain. really slows the workflow…makes me wanna go back to lightwave and maya:(
