Local Translation Triggering

#1

Hey Guys,

I’m stuck on a rigging process, I’ve built a tank, and want to automate the tracks movement based on the LOCAL translation of the tank, not world space.

Example: Using the move tool and setting it’s move axis to ‘object’, if the object is already rotated and then we move it say in the Translate Z axis, you’ll notice all the translation data changing.

What I basically need to do is hook up the trigger, (the trigger being the movement of the tracks) to the LOCAL Translation Z.

This wont work with world space unless I have a parent control that controls the animation which I really only wanted to use the one control.

Anyone have any ideas?

regards,
Shannon

As far as animation tracks/controllers are concerned: there’s no such thing as Local rotation/position. There is only rotation/position in the parent’s coord system.

If you link object to an aligned parent, you will get (initial) axes that are aligned to the local axis of the object.
