Excellent modeling of the old 500, well done! I love your taste in tuning such a car, nice work indeed .
Ciao, gran bel modello, sono contento di trovare qui un altro italiano che modella auto, siamo cosi’ pochi.
Un saluto
looking really nice so far man, liking the composition and the renders might have to take a look at Keyshot.
Are you going to keep the car looking pristine or are you going to add some dirt/chips/decals to the final image??
Thank you guys! Appreciate
dantrodgers, yes, in the end there will be more dirt and life, i hope
these renders are my very first tries with Keyshot.
As a tool for making “showcase” images it’s fantastic. Setting up the scene is a breeze, you can swap and customize hdris like it’s nothing. Its material library is huge, the realtime preview is sharp and quick.
That said, when you use it you can clearly see what it is meant to do, and what it is not. It’s not very flexible, and i don’t think it will be able to do what i have in mind for the final images.
But for the images in progress, wow. A very nice surprise. Expensive software, though.
Kangaltwo, pochi ma buoni, facciamoci compagnia
The model is outstanding, and the details are amazing, really love it!
If I can make only one critique, the front nose is a little bit flat, I don’t think it really fits the 500 style, but of course it’s just a personal opinion
Greetings from Taipei, anche se sono italiano
Very nice model, Federico!
The details look very good. I’m going to keep an eye on this WIP.
I guess we are not so few after all. We just were born in the wrong country
Guys!! it’s fantastic to have you all here! I must be honest, we already are more than I thought!
Maybe we should keep the Little Italy Effect at the minimum, i don’t want to scare the foreigners
Anyway, national pride aside, back on track:
3 or 4 hours of work went all in minor tweaks and modeling of some accessories. Things like handles, trunk supports, mirrors.
After that, I started to tinker with the car’s personality. Here’s a clay of the booty area:

Personally, I like the new exhaust. But i took the solution from a tuned vw beetle, that has different sizes…and now the exhaust’s chamber falls exactly in the place of the engine’s bottom. As soon as I have a rough model of the engine i’ll try to move it around… I’ve got a couple of references of tuned 500s where people practically hanged up the exhaust to rear bumper, crazy stuff. We’ll see.
On the front, i added the old rear hook and two racing headlamps:

I know that shutting the two original headlights while adding two new ones is a little mental, but i like to think that the mechanic had his own reasons, i don’t know
I received mixed comments on those headlamps. Someone said that they ruin the car’s style, and honestly, i can see why.
I personally like them, but i’d like to hear your opinion.
Here’s a render without them:

ferrettank, I’m collecting references of old school italian racing brands. I’d like to stick a couple of them around!
That’s all for now, thank you for all the nice comments, you’re too kind
Hi guys,
after a month working on more important projects, i begun modelling the engine!

Red parts are still low poly blocks for general proportions.
it’s pretty nice to see the trunk a little bit fuller!

If i must be honest, Im not very satisfied of how im handling the whole thing…!
The proportions of the block are way off, and fitting the engine in the trunk required a lot of fixes and scaling. Dragged by enthusiasm, I put way too much details in areas that will never be visible.
And on top of all, i have this slight sense of disorientation, since i know less than half of the parts im modelling.
anyway! back to work
Lol, from the title I was expecting Mario.
Great job, never heard of this car before but its cute.
Don’t worry, your project is very nice, solid, clean , accurate and smooth. Just the engine block looks overall too big in my opinion, i’d scale down it a lil bit . Just my 2 cents.
yeah, you are right, it’s too big. Now that i know it, it’s pretty obvious.
Thanks for the tip and the kind words!
Molto bene
Nice edge flow and everything looks fine. Nice selection of car and yeah its a cute little car.
Great model, lighting and materials also, nice job!
How precise is a motor model going to be? Is it allready finished? I hope so it’s not…
not precise at all… but i think i’m finally done with the engine!

Now it’s time to fix some topology and intersection issues that were revealed by the clay renders.
Expecially in the door and the rear window areas.

a couple of temporary materials!
I think it works pretty well
