Country: USA
Software: 3ds max, MARI, VRay, ZBrush
Submitted: 8th November 2013

My take on a mythical creature: the Satyr. I tried to give him an interesting personality, and to have a natural feel to the character. Modeled in 3dsmax and Zbrush. textured in MARI. Rendered in VRAY.

Thanks!

Super cool! master piece! :buttrock:

#6

Wow this looks so real, gotta share it on my page, if I may! Almost scary!

#7

Really nice results - especially with the skin - would love to hear more about your shader / texture setup in V-Ray! Keep it up!

#8

Awesome render! Impressive realism! But too symmetrical eyes
I like fur on shoulders very much!

Now this is a piece that I would love to see covered just like CGS used to do a couple of years ago. Although it might be just me there’s one tweak on the upper lip. Imo it looks a little bit unnatural… Anyway have to say I love the voodoo that you do with 3D.

Cheers.

Nice work, very realistic but it looks like good demonstration of your modeling/texturing skills … I miss that story element maybe having that character in some pose in context with environment etc.

Many thanks everyone!

TheDistiller Thank you very much man!
selwy Thanks man, can’t wait to see more of your awesome sculpts!!!
InTerceptoV Thanks man, love your work! My intention with this one was to do something that look like a realistic, very traditional photo portrait, but with a mythical creature instead of a human as the subject. Something like if Annie Leibovitz was working in middle earth or something  Wanted to stay away for illustration, action pose ect… I totally hear what you are saying thought, and maybe next time I’ll go with story element, pose, environment. Thanks for the comment!

Ok… I actually came back to ask something. Have to say that you’re work sparked back some interest into the whole graphics thing. I was wondering if you feel you could’ve pulled this off without the use of MARI or how much it actually helped in getting this nice piece of work. Never got to look too much into MARI but I always thought it’s a game changer. I’m thinking MARI is to texturing what Zbrush was to modeling.

Cheers.

sick model, dude. love the details on the horns. grats on the frontpage.

#19

droarty Thanks dude! You got some pretty amazing realistic stuff on your portfolio man!

NOTORIOUS-ro Yes, I only used MARI for textures on this guy. The horn are 100% hand painted in MARI, no photo projection at all, witch is something I love doing in MARI. For the face I’ve use some photo projection, and a lot of hand painting. I agree, it’s a very powerful soft, totally addicted now, can wait to start painting something new now…
superhooman Cool man! Thanks! Glad you like it!

I’ll post other images as soon!
