Lightwave to AM

#1

Hi,

Just wondering if someone could enlighten me with a way to import a sub-patch model from LW into AM. A plugin in the “AM to LW” thread was mentioned that, from what I understand, can do this. However, it doesn’t seem to show up in “import” or “export”. I have AM 2002 (not sure which version). Anyway, any help in this area would be greatly appreciated. I’ve been using Lightwave/messiah mainly for LW’s modelling abilities and would jump at the chance to be able to use AM again.

Thanks!

-Brian

Hi Brian,

Thanks to open a special thread to this LW2AM Pipeline.
As I can undertsand you want to import your mesh into AM.
But what do you want to do then, because the reply will totally change.

Case 1.
If you want to export the Mesh again for some rendering outside, there will be no great problem as mentionned in the AM2LW pipeline thread. But you do not touch up the mesh in AM (no more spline, no more points, no more hooks, no more patches). I think the points order of the final exported mesh from AM will make no great problem for me to solve but that is a supposition : I’m currently only working on the EXPORTER from a native AM model (that is about to be solved, in a totally different way that other exporters work - BTW, Arthur Wasalek is making a new version of his great Wavefront exporter plugin for AM).

Case2.
If you want to Render in AM… There are many many MANY problems to solve. I do not have thought yet about it, but the result should totally depends on the format you are using. Post here if you want more explanations. But that Case2 is the most difficult work to do.

Alain

So, questions :

  • what do you want to do by importing Meshes from LW to AM ?
  • What file format do you plan to use ?
