Lightwave job sites?

Cityscape regularly request Lightwave users for various roles if you fancy some arch-vis work.

PM on it’s way too.

#7

Hey thanks…I’ll check them out.

Cheers

We’re recruiting over at Digi-Guys (Ealing Studios, London) - Lightwave, Modo & XSI.

There are full details at www.wardevil.com (click on the Recruitment link) plus, we’ve just released a new 2008 Teaser trailer, which gives an idea of the Project  (look on the 2008 movies section).

Thanks everyone for all of your help and comments.

nope, dont know him, just of him and red star.
well get your reel together and send it out to all the studios in london.
many wont care what you made it with, as long as you show youve got skill and exp, as they always have their own tools for you to learn anyway…

good luck!

#12

Hey Margolius - get over to the WarDevil website and apply for a job

#13

WOW!!!

WarDevil looks amazing! I would love to apply for work with Digi-guys but unfortunately I am Midlands based and working in London isn’t a viable option for me at the moment. I’m going to have to look for something a little closer to home.

Thanks.

Hi,

I’ve just finished my new demo reel if anyone fancies checking it out and offering some C&C.

Its only a youtube vid so the quality is a bit poor.

Cheers

[left]Sorry, was back in the States last week… man weird after not being there for a loooong time

Aegis, you know the story, 8 figures and Im in  hows it going?

So Simon, great reel, Im sure youll have no trouble getting a job.
Whats the breakdown though, you did everything in each shot?

Only suggestion is to loosen up a little in your animating, sometimes a lil stiff…let loose, give it secondary animation, blah blah blah

Hi, I was reading this thread and I have a question about sending reels to Companies in London from the US. Here in Los Angeles as a Modeler/Generalist I know that if I send a reel to the larger companies, Sony/Dreamworks/Disney etc they want a specific reel for a specific job.
A modeling reel should only have modeling turntables, a Rigging reel should just show Rigging etc.
That’s not a rule set in stone it just seems to be the way things work here.
Smaller companies don’t mind people that can cross over to a few different areas because they get more out of that one person.
How do companies in London view generalists with experience?

Thanks,
Michael

Same thing pretty much, if you’re applying for a rigging job, show your rigging stuff.

Guess safest bet is to make several diff versions of reels, with the type of job you’re going for all at the begining and maybe at end have various other things you can do…

Thanks for the info. What I thought about doing was just making one DVD with differnt Chapters for modeling/texturing and then a Chapter for A general VFX reel.
You guys don’t have a problem playing a NTSC formated DVD in PAL players do you?
I prefer to just use my online reel but some places seem to want a DVD.
Thanks,
Michael

Hmm… that shouldn’t be a problem, however, make sure you make a region free disc. Most players are region free, but there are some that are not.

I was wondering if it would be alright to chime in as well as I’ve had difficulty adjusting to life in Suffolk. Before I was in Kent and London(Covent Garden area) was fairly reasonable to get into on a daily basis by train. But now the only place I can get to is Cambridge and I pretty much have to start over again(due to reasons beyond my control) where contacts and software is concerned.

I’ve been trying out Lightwave(infact, I want to use it for my personal work) for a while now but I’m worried if its actually got a market in Cambridge. Are there any “secret job lists” for that area?

#21

East Anglia as a whole is a bit thin on the ground for 3d currently but you could try Jagex as they always are looking for modellers. Google them.

Theres that name again! Yeah, I applied for them last year. I might give them another go if I can learn low-poly modelling in Blender as thats why they said they prefered. Another job advert(at the time) suggested they use Blender for modelling and XSI for animation. For a game like RuneScape that seems to be a good pipeline. Also, RuneScape appears to be headed by a guy who is a Java expert, and being that I’m currently learning Java with the OU it sounds like a company I would fit just nicely into…

Cheers, mate.

No worries. Other game companies in Cambridge include Frontier and Zoonami. I am Norfolk based but if I hear of anything I will PM you.

I’m not sure that Arch Vis is a good idea at the moment- both the commercial and residential building market is looking pretty weak, which must translate into less vis work, i would have thought.
