Lightwave Feature Request

#1

Looks like everyones excited about the potential of Core. But we also need a great animation system, autoriggers, stuff that makes character animation easy and a pleasure to do. I feel this aspect is sorely missed in previous versions of lightwave and that’s why other packages have gotten more useability than lightwave. Lightwave’s modeller is great, renderer is great, its just the animation or meat in the sandwich that needs a makeover urgently.

Hopefully the gurus at Lightwave Core will recognise this as a weakness and give us some amazing ca tools and workflows .

Seems we’re not the only ones.

Comparing the development of Core and EIAS through this year I have to say they will probably have those tools way ahead of us

#3

Right now I’d settle for a little sign of life. You would think that after nearly 8 months, the Igors and Tomas would know whether or not their deal is going through. You’d think they would speak out a bit.

Did the Disney/Marvel Comics deal take this long?!? The only thing I can figger, is that EITG assumes that the users of this forum are hardcore, loyal EIAS users and we’ll buy the package no matter how we’re treated. I personally believe, if nothing is heard from EITG, people may believe it’s time to invest in Maya, 3DS Max, Lightwave or some other package where communication with your customers is a top priority.

Happy New Year folks. I love to see good energy coming back to the forum JK.

I just saw Autodesk bundle the “Entertainment Suite” Maya Mudbox and Motion builder… I think this forum is not specifically EI loyalists per-se since in chatting with a few visitors application knowledge is across the board. I’d admit that C4d, Maya, and Modo are at the forefront for most of the members based on my fuzzy mental math. EI is just a fast output method for most of the members. I have lightwave 6 and stopped upgrading same reason for EI. Their renders where ahead of the curve a while back and since Jay Roth joined them I really became interested in EI since he was my original voice to Render fast retire young.

My interest now in LW is that their core is built from what I read with the same framework as the new modeler. If anything is an indicator is that both LW and EIAS who have been rivals most of the time are both using the same platform to launch their updated software.

What does this mean? Well if LW ports over it would be fair to assume that EI should have the same success and open up the doors to LW developers (maybe). I haven’t heard if there is any love left from Jay to the new EITG or if they are even friends but LW is working on faster renders and if that goal is met then EI has much to deliver as far as marketing, re-engaging the user base, training, convincing the stability of EITG and EIAS and future development. How the modeler will be a new piece of the puzzle is still in the air. Haven’t heard any mention of Kishore since his sabbatical.

Folks its a 2010 at this rate we have 2 years to pump some good work and hope 2012 doesn’t blow us up  . Keep doing what you do an I look forward to another year of speculations, frustrations, shortcomings and silence. I just want to hear a movie or tv show that gets an award this time around for using EI. Wonder what EITG New Year resolution is.

Best to you all and c-ya through the year.

Some signs of life…

Brad says the deal is done. So now we just wait on the Igors and Tomas to issue some kind of word.

#7

With first hand knowledge of it, I can tell you that there will be an announcement very soon.

Best,
Ian

#8

I’ll believe it when I read it.

HA HA HA! :applause:

Have any idea how incredibly annoying this type of information has become for EIAS users?
nothing personal mind you, but EIAS aught to Sh#t or get off the can…

#13

I think that’s all about to change. Tomas and the Igors will take the reigns and either pull EI out of its slump or this will be its last hurrah. Lets give them a chance. New leadership means new ideas.

Brian,

On an odd note. If Tomas / Igors are driving EIAS and probably announcing their plans then, wouldn’t EITG also resume announcing their status on EIM/Tesla? Maybe the “Developmental changes at EI Technology Group” might be updated to resonate the new partnership. May 27th, 2009 that’s some time off for core product updates / news. News on Amorphium?

Ok, I won’t post any more un-supportive posts here until I see the announcement.

Does anyone else find it ironic (or sad) that we’re getting this information second hand; under a thread titled “LIGHTWAVE”?

As far as being supportive of EI, well, I’m not an architect, so it’s the other way around. EI has to do lots and lots to support ME before they’ll be back in my good graces. Tomas and the Igors have a lot of customer service ground to make up. If they can pull that off then my interest in the software will resume and they’ll also be able to gain new users.

Currently I’m leaning towards Lightwave Core. Not to disrespect EIAS, but while management was quibbling over who had the best strategy and development plan, arguing over who owned what rights, the Newtek people decided that to future proof their software they had to start from a blank page and write something new. This is the approach that, maybe, EIM will be able to explore.

As for Tomas and the Igor’s vision for Animator, time will tell. Some years ago when Brad took over the company we were lead to believe he had a bold new vision. Unfortunately that vision seemed to be dropping Animator like a hot rock. Harsh, I know, but then it’s been a huge amount of time during which we users were left twisting in the wind. A software is more than just dollars spent. It’s also time for the learning curve, confidence that you made the right choice (or fear that you’ve made a wrong choice), and a feeling, however slight, that your investment is future proofed by having gotten involved with a growing, developing tool that will help you accomplish your tasks.

Now again if you’re an architect, then EI is a pretty slick tool. If you’re not - well, buyer beware.

Kurt…

Yes, the thread was hijacked. I plan to start a new thread once we see the press release and we can start a new discussion based off what is presented. In the meanwhile, response to the questions above were what prompted this discussion.

As for EI’s worthiness as a tool, it does quite well in the architecture field (as you stated) but also does well in broadcast design. Either market would be capable of supporting a niche application like EIAS if the owning company were to specifically choose to cater to that market. That’s never happened before. EITG continued to push EIAS as an all around product and squared it off against the top 5.

I’ve mentioned several times before, if EI is to go against the top five, its priorities must change.

Hi Wilson,

The only information I have on Telsa is Brad’s consistent commitment on bringing it back on the market. I know the deal with Tomas and the Igors, along with the Ramjac situation created a huge detour for Brad. Now that the deal is complete, we should see forward momentum again. Or at least we hope.

#18

My 2 cents here. Over the years, quite often with EI, they say they are ready to announce some exciting news. But turns out they are not really ready and users were made to wait and wait, sometimes very very long. Maybe in the future, they should have everything ready to go 100%, press releases already written, everything finalized before letting a single word out.

#19

Well nobody has actually announced anything (product wise) other than a change in ownership. So we don’t know what that entails. So the PR should help clarify that.

Judging by some of the things I have read about here (like Tesla) I think I´ll wait until I see it before I believe it
