Lightning help!

#1

Hi! This is my first time posting a thread and my english isnt that good… Hope you understand my question.

So i’ve made a model in Maya representing a Swedish tobacco product called “Snus”. And i was pleased with the final result. The only thing that bothers me is the color of the lights… I used alot of lightning in the scene. Here is a picture of the lightning setup:

The setup of the lights is pretty basics. White color with different intensity. The area lights have “Use light shape” setup enabled.

The direct light is the only light casting shadows.

I’ve watched some tutorials and tried using layers. Here is my layers:

Color: All the polygon shapes and a pointlight
AA: All the polygon shapes and ambient occlusion preset
Screen: Everything except the pointlight.

The final render looks like this:

Wich is pretty nice but i don’t like the color. So i imported the final image to Photoshop and played around with the curves and got this:

So my question is… How do i achieve the same results directly from maya without using photoshop to change the color curves

Im not sure if what you want is possible but the links in your post are not working.

Couple of things could happening here.

One is the way the color of the wall may be playing with the reflections on the table.

Sine the color of the original render is very warm you may need to cool the colors off a little. Your final looks more blue.

The other looks like color temperature. Is this mental ray I assume?

Not sure if the basic area lights you have set up are using color temperature. Again move them from the warm colors into the colder spectrum of whites and into blues.

I can see the green wall going more blue in the corrected image.

Maybe choose a more blue tint in the color picker for the wall colors.

Also looks like you added some contrast to the image. Are you using a lens correction (mental ray?) or adjusting the framebuffer?

Sorry Willanie! Don’t really know how to post images here… But right click on the corrupted icon and chose “copy imageadress” or something similar… Then paste it on the web browser.

PerfectLine. Ty for the feedback! I will try changing the color of the walls. I will also try to add a tint of blue to the area lights! Im using mental ray, im not that familiar with the settings but im using everything as default. The contrast may come from Photoshop when i changed the curves and removed some of the red color… What do you mean with “Color temperature”?

Is it possible to add contrast in mental ray using lens correction? Did not know that. Might check it out if it is possible!
