Late entry but here’s mine. hope you like it
Lighting Challenge #25: (WIP) Artistry
is this challange still open?..
can i take part now?..this is gonna be my first ever challange
great stuff so far guys. here’s my latest tweak for this challenge. still some work to do. but I think it’s getting there. C&C’s welcome. Full size here
Bell, are you trying to illuminate the ‘line329’ or the hanging light? coz. the ladder group seems to be missing in the camera view.
Thanks threeDeepond.Yes it all looks a bit strange but I worked out what was going on. Apparently some shaders don’t understand light linking. I had a mental ray shader on all the geometry at one stage and this was messing up the light linking. So at least I learnt something I didn’t know before.
hi friends every time i see this competition but never taken part in it (always lazy )!
so this time i finally did , i know i am late but will definitely complete b4 end date

Great work, Tuffmutt, as usual!
Hey, I was wondering if anyone here could help me out with an issue I’m having with a mental ray spotlight, trying to make fog with shadows. Never had to do it before, and it’s not working.
I get this:
I’m using Maya 2009 with Mental Ray. Using the instructions as written here:
No matter how I tweak the settings, I get this ugly jaggedy mess. A lot of people here seem to have this figured out because I see those nice shafts of fog in their renders.
What am I doing wrong on this one? I’ve tried everything I can possibly think of.
BTW I don’t know why this site calls me a “veteran” because I’m not!
hello Inky99, wy don’t you try to use the standard spot light.? It’ll even save render time for you…
There are some really kick ass ones being created here!
Here is my latest.
If there is anything really looking bad let me know.
And the painting isn’t done yet

i had a problem with that too… hmm so far i found that increasing light radius in ray trace shadow and turn on auto volume on and set around 5++ in renderer tab will help?
correct me if i am wrong
Hello Inky99,
Great work, Tuffmutt, as usual!
Hey, I was wondering if anyone here could help me out with an issue I’m having with a mental ray spotlight, trying to make fog with shadows. Never had to do it before, and it’s not working.
I get this:
This should be a subtle effect. I was playing a bit with this since it has been a while since I used it and here are some settings that might help you.
Under the LightFog1
Density = 8
Fast Drop Off = checked
Under conShape1
Render Stats>
Volume Samples Override
Volume Samples = 4
Deep Jitter = checked
Under Render Settings:
Under Quality> Quality Presets =Custom
Under Raytrace/Scanline Quality
Sampling Mode = Adaptive Sampling
Min Sample Level 0
Min Sample Level 2
The 0 and 2 are for my final renders only you can even try -2 and 0 when testing out your renders.
This is what I got. Good luck
Hi, hope there is not too late to get in the challenge. I´ll try with this. CC super welcome.
here’s my chance at the scene tho im not sure if i’ll finish in time; i’m having trouble choosing wood textures for the desk, tables, stools, and easel. besides that, i’m going to re-arrange the seating bcuz its too much black for me. ohh…i have no idea what the basket-looking objects are in-front of the stacked chairs, anybody have a clue?

Hi guys, hope everyone had really good holidays. This is my first entry here in a CGTalk Challenge. I enjoy seeing all the different looks that can come out of this scene. Well this is my take on that subject.
Comments are very welcome, since I am already blinded of looking so much at the same thing…
Ohhh!!! looks something Different
nice shader… :applause:
but I think in bg, blue tone is more dominated…may be there is a mixture of both fog and blue tone??? wht is tht light source?? is it light coming from window? or its a artificial light??
keep it up!
Hey Maxmit, thanks for the reply. So the blue light is comming from one window on the ceiling, and the yellowish orange light is coming from a artificial light source behind the canvas. There is a fog, and it only affects the light coming from the window.
Well I’ll try to bring down the intensity of the light coming from the window and I should post it here again.
By the way really like what you did with your scene, looks very photoreal and interesting at the same time. And great job with the woods in that scene too.
