Lighting Challenge #24: (WIP) The Cabin

#301

@Kannoshka - Thanks for the review!

Here’s my third pass. I’ve add more variation in the back mountains, Toned down the dust and added another directional light.

#302

Ok i changed it a lot. I think it had some problems with the lut settings.

Here is another try with a little dof

and another now with the sun/sky set a little earlier. Dof has really given it some depth.

Hey everyone, longtime lurker, first time poster. I’ve heard of this before but I never really got around to doing one and since it’s been summer I feel like I need to keep up on my lighting skills and hopefully improve on them by doing these. btw fantastic work all around here. Well here is one of my first tests for this project, don’t mind the grass, I’ve never done fur before and I wanted to see how it works etc. and I’m not much of a texture artist (I can do it but I’m not great at it) Low quality settings atm just to try and get a feel for what I want/looking for and still adjusting how I want to frame this up. Imagine the campaign “Swamp Fever” in Left 4 Dead 2 that is the kind of look and feel I want to try and strive for. I will be adding trees and such later and still not entirely sure about how to do the sky. help, tips, comments everything is welcome. thanks.

I will give it a shot
To better improve my lighting abilities

It’s been a while since my last update. Got some time today to work on the highlights that Mr Birn and Dan have suggested. Here’s what I have got so far. Please help out.

#311

thx Kanooshka for the helpful feedback. There isnt really any light leaking going on but rather the strong reflection of the metal material makes it look funny. I prolly need to take it down a notch.
Here is an update. I still need to tweak some things. Let me know what u think.

#312

Here is my latest render, let me know what you think.

#313

Update. Don’t know if its any better. Could really need some feedback atm.

#314

I´ve done a second version, now in bright daylight.

The night version is still my favorite!

Thats the one, adding some of the saturation back helped. Really great job.

The only thing I might consider is making it a 2 point perspective but your lighting and color grading are spot on.

#316

@pauldryzen- Wow! you got an amazing demoreel there. I am ready to kill someone to have a demoreel like that.

#317

Thanks,

that reminds me of doing a new version of my reel, damn!

I really like this image a lot. The light, mood, colors, and depth are fantastic. In general I hate lens flares, but it looks good here. Two criticisms:

The vignetting in the upper left hand corner seems too strong and looks too fake. I also think the grass in the foreground lower right could be improved. The grass looks like it is sticking up at a 45 degree angle like it’s perpendicular to the surface, when really I think it would grow mostly upright. Personally, I find it distracting and out of character with the rest of the image.

#319

here is my next step. I want to get the image look like a fogy morning. Next i will work on all the wooden stuff and maybe some more ivy.

Here is my next update.Give me some feed back.
