@djprasun : nice work really… only the background is looking lil shaky(in the center of the image) coz of fog may be…

anshad06 : am fan of ur output already…

kanooshka :  this is all I can say !!!

gagan: i like how your light source is so strong on the left but it seems a bit strange the the glow is leaking inside the cage when the ball is sitting ontop of it!

simplychen: i like the composition you have going. I can’t wait to see it fully lighted!

jprasun: it’s interesting how your warped the background image, i’m curious how it would look if you warped the 3d image the same way!

#308

I have made some changes in lights and textures, also included a skeleton and a lamp in the scene.
waiting for some comments !

Hi guys,

Back with another WIP. Still trying to figure it out how to make the scene a bit contrasty than the previous one. Playing with colors just to make it a little bit darker and more contrast.

@kanooshka : great image and lighting as usual :buttrock:

@preetamsaha : nice render. but I seems to get a bit confused since there’s a lot colorful objects around. Perhaps redirecting with light colors can give more edge. Cheers…

@djprasun : I love how you stage your camera. One thing tough, the wood textures for the book rack doesn’t look organic. Other than that it’s very cool.

@gagan0177 : great lighting. The radio can have more texture tough.

anyway heres my WIP, comments and critics are needed, the mouse still need a lot of work as of other areas as well :

Cheers!!

I’d like to point the Maya users here to a new light tool I’m working on. Currently this tool’s main purpose is for soloing lights, which I’m sure you all know is a must! Go here for more information: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?p=6560277#post6560277

neonbulbs: Thanks for the compliment! Your image has a strong quality to it, especially the skull. There are a few areas that are going a little dark. In particular, the test tubes, cage inside the cage and the straps of the goggles. The pliers on the bottom look strange the way they are partially in the image, they may work better in the bottom right corner of the image in front of the books. The syringe next to the books could use some more definition, in particular a specular highlight.

preetamsaha: Good update. The specularity on the glass is very strong and could be adjusted. Glass is very reflective and when a light source is reflected so are the surfaces it’s illuminating. Here’s a good reference: http://syphoria.com/London/slides/glass%20reflection.jpg. Glass reflections are much more mirror. The solution to this may be placing an image to reflect or even creating an environment behind the camera that’s illuminated by the light sources in the scene. The lamp in the scene doesn’t seem to be motivating much light in the scene and becomes a little distracting because of how bright it is compared to everything else. The short beaker in front of the cage is very dark and also getting lost in front of the cage behind it. Try getting some reflections of the table and the environment around.

lilnamz: Thanks for the compliment

djprasun: Great update. You’re starting to build a nice image. Compositionally I think you may be able to do without the two tall beakers,or possibly just move them to the back, on the right of the table though they do break up the horizontal of the tables edge. The table edge is extremely parallel with the tiles on the floor and make it very difficult to tell when the table stops and the floor begins. You may want to try a different option for the material/texture on the floor to create some depth. Some areas on the liquids are looking very dark and almost go black. This could be a trace depth issue or it could be just that they need some more direct illumination or even reflection.

simplychen: Good start. your composition is fairly strong, it just seems a little odd that there’s so much on the table but the shelves are very empty. As for the lighting, you’re heading in the right direction. The light bulb is looking a little strange because the top of it is black, you’ll probably want to use some kind of self illuminated material for that. As you move forward I hope you use the sides of the books in the foreground to have some nice warm rim light and soft highlights from the table and lamp.

gagan0177: Nice image. The glass material works well, it just needs something more to reflect. The liquids on the right of the image are very dark, they could use some more diffuse light. If I’m not mistaken there’s a light located directly beneath the tall glass in the bottom right. I’d expect much brighter light and scattering within the liquid from this light source. The inside of the device looks very evenly lit. Try to create a gradient on the inside. This reference might be able to help you out: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/156/424106311_5cfda6c808_o.jpg

zhangjinb0: Good image. Try to shape the objects in the scene a little more with light. When different sides of the same object are the same brightness the object will look much flatter. A few objects that could use the shaping are the books and the water bottle in the cage. Under the shelf could be much darker. The underside of the shelf should be much darker than the sides. I’d like to see the reflection on the tiles broken up some with a bump map. Here’s an example image: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/55/124699084_38722eeca5_o.jpg

nitz3d: Nice update. The harsh line from the shelf’s shadow down the middle of the device is distracting. Try softening or moving the shadow a little. The two walls are very close in value, the difference in colors works well but the similar intensities flatten out the image. Try darkening the fill light on one of the walls. Some of the glass is getting lost in the background, in particular the stem of the tall glass in the foreground and the glass container in the corner, some rim lights should fix the issue. The corner is very visible because of the sudden change from red to gray. Try adding a bounce of red light onto the far wall where the corners meet.

Druie: Good image! Some areas are very strong while others are lacking. I think lowering the intensity of the light from behind the camera will make a huge difference. Looking at objects such as the books I can see there isn’t much of a difference between the front and side of the pages. The reflection of the device’s screen on the tile appears to be brighter than the screen of the device. The brightest this should be would be the same. The brain and jar are very dark and don’t seem to be matching very well with the lighting considering how bright the objects are around the jar. It may be a good idea to lighten the diffuse value of either the rat or the cage, they blend together a lot. Also, the dish in the cage could use a gradient across it, showing the roundness of the object, right now it’s very evenly lit.

Hi, this is my first attempt in this competition, would like your views, have just blocked the lights and the mood, yet to finish with textures and stuff

#312

hi friends,

neonbulbs : nice image:cool:, found small problem with the test tube. good going…

preetamsaha: good render, but i felt that the beaker and syringe did not touch the ground(try occlussion)

djprasun: i like the camera angle you selected

gagan0177: nice render

lilnamz : thank u for your compliment

I tried candle light in this scene

c & s always welcome

Updated my image with the suggestions. If there’s no more major critiques, I’ll start working on my breakdown.

Full Resolution

#315

kanooshka, very nice. i love the materials.
here’s a update from me.

#316

tuffmutt1: Great image as always. The water bottle on the left seems too transparent, the center is so transparent it looks like it’s floating. The ear of the rat blends in very closely to the bars of the cage, I think the bars could use more yellow rims from the background and less red from the foreground as the bars move further from the red light. At least that could differentiate the ear and bars through color. Some rim lights on the fur would help a lot, right now there’s just a big blob of fur with ears. Some whiskers on the rat would be a nice touch too.

ashwinkumar7: Good work. The brain in the jar looks a little too bright compared the its surroundings. A strong kick with a smaller amount of fill on the brain would match the lighting a little better. I’d like to see some light bouncing off of the table and onto the the items on the table. Some environment reflections would help out with a lot of the reflective materials. Try either lighting the environment or placing 1 or more image(s) behind the camera.

anshad06: Great job! The objects on the right side of the table seem to be lacking in specular reflections, especially the tall glass. You don’t need a large amount because the objects are dusty and dirty, but certain areas like the sides of the glass wouldn’t be extremely dusty. The window in the back doesn’t need to be so black. A small amount of skylight and some brightness to the sky would push this image a little further.

aran69in: Welcome! You have a good start. Try to first concentrate on the specular highlights. Specular highlights are one of the defining factors to a portraying a material. The glass highlights in this image are very broad and dull. Glass highlights will usually be very small and strong. It looks like the reflections on the green liquid in the background are tinted. Only metals will have tinted reflections. Keep going with this.

#317

hello to all, unfortunatly I’ve broken my arm and this mean more time for rendering. Dan your image is great, I will just change a bit the texture of the brain. I’ve made a very fast vray material, if you want I can share the maps and settings, it’s also tileable so no need of messing in UV
Giorgio
here the results of the material

#318

Hello friends
Can you share texture?
Thank you very much
