#64

pankajkaintura43 you might want to try a large area light just below the interior lightbulbs…

#65

Hey Noouch…thanx a lot…really i tried it & started getting little bit what I m looking for…thanx alot once again…soon will post an update :frowning:

pankajkaintura: To light the merry go round you’ll need lights from facing lots of different angles, what might do the trick for you is placing a few point lights underneath the roof.

genaf: Good work so far, make sure your lighting matches your backplate. As for the image you’re looking for, I don’t have the image, Jeremy might but I’m not sure.

punytjoshi: Interesting take on the scene. The balloons don’t seem to be receiving any shadowing and don’t match the lighting of the person on the bench. I’d expect warm light to be hitting them on the left side. and cool from the upper right.

brookselliott: Looking great! You may want to take a look at some photo references of balloons. Some transparency may help a little bit.

djprasun: Getting better. With the ferris wheel being so bright, I’d expect the reflection in the water to be nearly as bright. As for the boat I’d expect to see some light bouncing back towards the boat from what’s coming through the portals.

halfPintMike: Good start. I’d suggest moving some models around for the composition. Maybe moving all the things in the background much closer to the merry-go-round. As for the lighting you may want to get some more directionality , the horses appear to be nearly as bright on the side as the top.

Voigg: I’ll try to explain the glowing a little more. Are you using some sort of GI? How about depth maps? Take a look at the horses’ stomachs. They’re just as bright as the backs of the horses. Since you said your shadows are casting shadows I’d say this is either from depth mapped shadows being to soft or from using a GI solution. If using GI I’d suggest turning it off until you get your direct lighting exactly the way you want it.

Hello everybody.
This is my idea of light for the Carnival.
It was done in Luxology Modo.

#68

Here’s a closeup of what I have on the carousel so far.

C&C appreciated.

#69

is this what you’re looking for?

#70

Here’s my first update to this wonderful challenge…still lots of things to be done but still looking for u r C&C’s
Thanks kanooshka for ur help…yup I have put some point lights underneath the roof of merry go round as ur suggestion…

#71

Thanks kanooshka for the great challenge. This is what I have so far. C&C are welcome! I’m using 3ds max 2009 with mental ray.

@tuffmutt1: I love your carousel. The hourse materials is beautiful.
@djeanimation: The colors are working great! I feel there’s a blur to everything and as a result, nothing really stands out from others in the scene
@neutrix: Love your dreamy colors. 2 of the balloons look more like chrome though
@brokselliott and @kanooshka: Can’t wait to see more from you. The golden quality of the carousel is great! I just couldn’t get the look right, but I’ll keep trying.
@Tischenberg: The balloons look more like candies now. I’d think the more saturated color would happen around the edges rather than the center.

#72

Hi !

I’m joining this challenge. I worked on the carousel lights only for the moment.

#73

herbertagudera - yes. big thanks!

#74

This is my first draft. I’m having trouble coming up with a story to show for this thing. I’m debating using a friends character rig to liven up this scene. But for right now I’m just trying to have really rich colors, no texturing but basic shaders so far, texturing will be next.

Crits, harsher the better, are welcome.

#75

Hello everybody…here’s my latest update,…

#76

hey,

Im back from the “dead” i will participate in this for sure.

pankajkaintura43: Nice work, overall your image looks very ambiently lit. Make sure lights are casting shadows. One thing that gives away lack of shadows is the bottom of the ball that is on top of the merry-go-round. It’s receiving light from through the top. The green and red striped top also looks very flat, there’s no gradient to show the cylindrical form. Make sure all your lights are motivated , keep at it!

zmuh11: Looking Great! I’m looking forward to textures on this. You may want to play with the intensity of the lights on the Ferris wheel. Compared to the light off screen left they are a little distracting and blown out.

ty666: Welcome and good start, keep going!

nan1203: I’m glad you like the challenge and thanks for the compliment. Nice work so far! Try to create a gradient with light across the form of the Carousel.

Tischenberg: Good start! Interesting take on the balloons, They look a little bit like glass at the moment, maybe a softer highlight would take care of that. There’s some pieces on the rollercoaster in the back that appear to be glowing, I’m not sure if that’s intentional or not.

neutrix: Oops, It appears I missed you last time around. Welcome! Very nice work so far, you have a good sense of form, especially in the foreground with the bench and trashcan screen right. The image feels a little crowded in the background, it’s difficult to discern objects from each other. Try to light each area with different color lighting so that objects are a little more discernible. I also notice from your back plate that there seems to be too much ambient lighting. If you look at objects such as the trees in the back plate the ambient light is nearly black.

#78

here is my first image. I tested some different camera positions around this scene but i think this is the best even tough its the challenge entry cam. I like it and found nothing better…

#79

That angle makes the Ferris Wheel look tiny. Try making the Ferris Wheel extend much higher in frame than the Merry Go Round, and it will help the scale of the whole scene. (Maybe this is too wide a field of view, with the camera too close to the Merry Go Round, but don’t be afraid to move things as well.)

Zach, It is looking good… The left foreground lighting is looking good, you should focus on the ferris wheel lighting, shading (nice painted metal, could need an environment reflection). You may want to consider adding some back lighting too (maybe a bit of volume light?)
