hey guys ! plzz give me some suggestions & feedbacks of my output . i am vry new in this field , & i dont know much softwares . i only know the use of stander lights of maya & a bit of mental ray . i only used stand lights of maya to lit up this sceen & rendered in maya software! so guys plzz help me ! & i am eagerly waiting for your reply, Jeremy Sir !

#605

Thank you :). I’ve been playing with it some, decided to try a texture on the table cloth to break up the solid colors.

Thank you and i agree about the angle. I tweaked the composition, in second sight, the text made it apparent that the focal point was too low and off to the side.

#606

Yeah, that’s pretty much what I figured you were talking about. Good idea, I think I’ll use another spotlight to add in the faint light that gets thrown way off to the side of the flashlight beam.

Thanks for the links. I like the experiment that guy did with modeling lenses and using caustics to simulate a flashlight. But of course, that’s too complicated for this – I’m just going to fake it.

#607

Thanks Jeremy, great to be here finally, on time!
I know exactly what you mean, that’s what I was shooting for but didn’t like the result; cold, dark and attention focused outside - so I went for prettiness over realism. But I will try it again, I have a few ideas.

#608

Hi all - this is my first post on here, lots of nice renders from this challenge - I plan to work on the next challenge.

I watched a Nuke Master Class video recently where they used a normal pass and a point position pass. Does anyone know how to setup those passes for rendering?
Thanks!

#609

Hi guys,

Due to time constraints I’ve only had the oppertunity to start this competition last night, so Ive still got a lot of work to do. However there is still a few days to go yet. To be honest I pretty much know nothing about lighting, so w00t for learning. :scream:

So far lighting wise…

1x key light
1x seperate specular light (for the shiny-bits)
1x fill light
1x bounce light

And using Physically Based Rendering in Mantra.

Thanks to everyone for the assets to use, and arctor for cleaning up the files and making a nice .BGEO for me to play with.

Cheers

#612

is not a final work.
comments more than welcome.thnx…

#613

OK this is my first attempt using portal lights to light the scene not sure why i have black windows but im working to fix that … im also deciding if i should use a ambient light source near the window

#614

Ok this is my Second attempt. it seems the window issue is beyond my Skills to fix but i did get the feel i wanted. i still have some Shader work to finish and some fine tuning of the lights but please let me know if you think i should try something to improve it.

#615

chad5118, I can’t see anything, try a fill light of some sort.

#616

Here ya go i will tweak it more once the shading is done.
using 1 Area light connected to a portal light with the custom environment linked to mia_blackbody for the main lighting source. and using a secondary area light for a fill light also using mia_blackboby to maintain the mood of the lighting. if you know why the portal light is blocking the outside of the window please let me know. also im not sure if i should try an ambient light or not. Jeremy your work is astounding as usual btw. also this is priorto doing my usual Ambient occlusion pass and Diffuse passes.

#617

Hi friends!!
New render…
Please coments!
Thankss!

#618

Hy to all at cgtalk .This is my first post so plzzz comment on it…

#619

Hi everyone…
I just started to work on this scene a few days ago… that’s the first time I’m joining a challenge… and I’m not very experienced in lighting and shading… but I like it… and it’s a good scene to learn more about it…

I’m using 3ds max and Vray.
That’s my 5th render or so… I still haven’t done all materials and I’m thinkling about using a different table cloth…
the light comes from a vraysun and is supposed to look like a morning-sun-light… but I don’t really like the very blue reflections wich come from the sky… I’ll try to fix that…

I’m curious about your comments and critics…
