Yeah, I remember that one, I still have the tutorial. Tried to find his webpage but no luck.

These examples are really cool though, thanks for sharing

EDIT:
I don’t want to bump this thread, but here’s something for new readers to tate a look at… it’s a plugin that supposedly does all of this by using an image. http://www.shift.gr.jp/html/staff/sp/sp000005.html

uhm too complex and less controllable.
export a luminoisty channel for post production,
then load original sequence and luminosity chan applied like multiply method or screen.

than add to luminosity channel a filter like time echo.

this is possibile for after effects, digital fusion, combustion, and so on.
have a nice day.

Digging up this old thread
I have make this effect to test it out, and my results are a bit different, but cool none the less.
Now I was trying to enhance the effect, but letting the trail drop particles. But that doesn’t seem to work, becuase you cant seem to have a emmiter at the end point of the cube ( that is stretched). And trying to get the object to emit particles doesn’t work either. Becuase the particles come out of the front.
Anyone has a clue how to do it?

I"m certainly no expert in this area, but have you tried hitting FX Start? That can make the particles recognise the deformation.

If that doesn’t work, you could try using MD_Scan (I think) which would save the object’s deformation. Then apply your particles and hit FX Start.

Good luck.
