Leo's Daily Report of SIGGRAPH 2004

#1

Hi all,

My daily report from SIGGRAPH 2004 is here on [CGNetworks.com](http://www.cgnetworks.com) (which you should be visiting for all the news from the show).

 [>> CG Mecca 2004 - SIGGRAPH, Los Angeles - Daily Report <<](http://www.cgnetworks.com/story_custom.php?story_id=2290)

My report is purposefully brief, as I get back to the hotel ridiculously late and don't get much sleep. So I'll keep it short and fill the report with lot's of photos instead.

I do not report specifics of announcements - please read the company press releases for this. I do not write feature lists, or comment on them.

This report is what I (Leonard Teo) did at SIGGRAPH. I was mostly doing Ballistic/CGNetworks related things. It is a BLOG/diary of what I did, where I went and people that I met. Other sites have reports that are more in-depth and focus on the announcements from the show - this is not what my report is supposed to be.
Day 1 SIGGRAPH kicks off - Alias User Group Meeting
Day 2 Ballistic presentations and Discreet User Group Meeting
Day 3 Expo starts
Day 4-5 Battling the Hangover (Lot’s of photos)

’ The AGUA VIP party where Doug Walker announced the acquisition of Kaydara.’
…wow,do they really announc that at a party??sounds so lame, and unprofessional…now i know why everybody wants to have Siggraph in L.A!:scream:

It depends on what country you’re coming from. For many countries you do need to have a visitors visa to enter the States. That’s why I am not at Siggraph right now - my local US Embassy refused to give me an appointment for a visa application, claiming they were “too busy” even though I contacted them well over a month ago. Without the visa, I couldn’t attend Siggraph.

Most of the events at these conferences are open to everyone who has a pass. You can get all the information you need from the Siggraph site.

If you’re coming from New Zealand or Aus, i dont think you need a visa if you’re going to be staying for less than 90 days. That’s according to the US Visa Waiver Program. This doesn’t apply to all countries though, so it’ll be best to check first.

Greeting from Siggraph. I’m sitting inside the Guerilla Studio to type this. This is my first Siggraph and it is tons of fun! I hear this one is smaller than previous years, but it’s still rather large and requires tons of walking. Buy yourself some running shoes! That’s my 2 cents, have fun all!
