Hi all this is my second attempt to do a likeness modeling. Your thoughts and critics are much appreciated.

What’s your ref. Always share what you use as reference picture. Because, he look super fat for a Leonardo DiCaprio.

It depend on your movie reference… He’s more slim in Gatsy and the Revenant then in J.Edgar

#3

Hmm. Point noted. I was facing this dilemma when doing it. His appearance has changed quite a bit over time. I was following the first portion of “wolf of Wall Street”. I will certainly have a look again at the “GREAT GATSBY”. Thanks

At the end, you must choose a movie. Like Tom Hawks, you can trust the actor to stay the same.

#5

I have done a little bit of tweaking. Think I shall leave it up to that for the time and get on with the texture. May consider modifying after the hair and textures are on.

#6

I recommand you keep working on the modelling.

If you dont have a good likeness in a modeling, your texture will suffer from it.

#7

Skin texture added

I haven;t double checked refference but from first glance I’d say his face is too wide. He looks quite fat to be honest while in real life he is not at all…
His mouth also doesn’t look wide enough.

There is definitely a resemblance in the facial features though.

I have to agree with stage other posts here saying that the model needs more work. It doesn’t really look like Leo, especially since the face is too wide.

#10

Done some corrections. Please let me know your thoughts.

#11

Here is the reference I was trying to match with

#12

Yah maybe his face is more round these days. Then I will comment on the other details. Focus on the nose. You miss his round nose.

And you really need to match the eyes. The eyes are everything.

#13

It could almost be Matt Damon as well, that is mainly due to the eyes at the moment.

I know how tricky it is, especially after looking at it for tens of hours. But it’s a good practice. His lower lip should have more volume. Also his eyes are set deeper, and nostrils are less round.

#15

mister3d quite like your style of pointing out things and I do agree with them. Tried out those. Here it is

Looks like with his eyes he has gone under knife recently.

#16

Nice improvements! Don’t you want to show other views? I would choose one reference of Dicaprio in terms of time. Now he got some weight, and doesn’t look like a viewer would expect him to be.

#17

Thanks mister3d. I am not planning to drag this project any more. Now I am getting a bit confused myself as well. Most probably I shall start new project after texturing this one. Regarding other views I am not that bothered as I am going to render it from this angle.

#18

Don’t lose patient over your model man. People have a tendency to finish quickly what tyhey don’t like or just because they receive to must critics. It’s not the proper way to end a project if you want to learn.

Keep in mind that Character face of known actor is already a challenge. I remember the firtst attempt on our CG Arnold in Genisys movie… man it was not him. But it turn out fine

#19

Thanks for your inspiration Scote. The thing is his appearance has changed over time quite dramatically. Different people relates to him from different times. Thats why I am not willing to carry on with this one any more. Most probably I shall do three separate portraits of him. One from 2000’s, one from 2007/8’s and one from 2013/14’s. But before that I shall do someone different who has not changed this much over time.
