LED Screen, please help

#1

I’m creating an LED type screen where deflectors change particles from grey to red.

I need a condition that will make particles change to red (and stay red) while in contact with a custom deflector and turn to grey when they are not.

I’m sure it’s a very simple condition… however I can’t figure it out!..

Please help,

Thank you!

I’m guessing your deflector has a volume, so one collision > flips to red, second collision > flips back to grey. So you just need two collision tests, the second piping the particles back into the first event.

Yupp…what he said, but, if you’re using a UDeflector with a Mesh, you’ll have to duplicate the mesh and flip its normals, since there is no collision with backfacing Polys computed.

Krakatoa has a ‘geometry test’ that would do exactly what you want. You can test for particles INSIDE the geo, and also outside, without having to have 2 deflectors.

Hello, thanks for the response…

…hmmm thinking about it … I guess you could have a smaller text deflector inside a larger one… when the particles hit the smaller text deflector they turn red and when they hit the larger one they turn back to gray, I guess that would work, I’ll give it a try.

Thanks!

EXACTLY what I needed… thanks!

Great!,

That’s exactly what I need,

Thanks!

And here is the Tutorial showing how to use it:
