I am new to rigging but I want to eventually become a character TD. I am self-learning at the moment and got several tutorials/books to help me in the process.
Animation Friendly Rigging
Complete Maya Programming Volumes I & II
Maya Python for Games and Film
MEL Scripting a Character Rig in Maya
Body Language: Advanced 3D Character Rigging
I am planning to go through these books to help me get into rigging and understanding. My question is, what else do I need to know? Where do muscles deformation come in? Would someone in junior position be expected to know about it?
I know in most major studios, people may start as matchmoving artists before specialising in an area of 3D. I have basic knowledge in matchmoving using PFTrack.
Also, another question. For a junior rigging artist, what would an employer expect to see in a showreel?
Sorry for the many questions. I would really appreciate any advice you give. Thanks.
