Learning How to Draw, A Journal by warpy

the way i would go at the hair, is to blur it a bit using the blur brush and add those stands you mentioned… but … tired heh

agreed. It’s better to leave something you are happy with than to come up with something that just ruins it all (though that is not as dangerous in digital as in traditional).

i have a ready made sentence for someone like you who asked about the jewelry
“in my opinion a woman should not wear anything but her skin” :stuck_out_tongue:

shave off her hair, then…
I am all for eye-catchers… (and there’s a wide range of them out there… Leaving you with this to give you something to think about…:scream:

so with this piece i wanted to achieve proportion, gesture, see if my brush skills can look detailed with rough strokes.

the only colors i picked were from the girl in the ref. no tracing.

after watching his concept art sketch and his usage of painter X brushes i decided to see if those brushes fits me. it was smooth sailing from then on.

wow that girl is really cool

Where would you sugest me to start with colors? as u see my thread i got only values so far.

books dvds whatever you have to recomend i gota start with colors soon

#190

i have no idea, i just copy from real life. its actually the first attempt at something with colors. for the last couple of months i have just been observing how colors behave in real life. no actual painting. i guess some of this has rubbed off onto me. :stuck_out_tongue:

#191

Hey warpy, I’d suggest working from a darker background to eliminate that glaring white. Also something is odd with the mouth - it’s too generic and angular at this point. Good start, are you going to continue with this?

#192

nope, i am not going to do anything about it, i actually like the white background its like a real paper  the original advertisement is somewhere in last week’s news paper :frowning:
i am going to start a new one sometime soon.

#193

another study, what do you think. i personally like the hair :stuck_out_tongue:

#194

Hey there, I think that this image definitely needs a bit of blending. I also never think it’s a good idea to work against a pure white background, it just throws all of your values out of whack. The proportions look good, but those teeth seem a little yellow. If you polish this up and darken the bkgrd a bit I think it will be a nice piece.

#195

i actually wanted it to be rough like that, in the next piece i will try a non white background.

#196

here is a comic cover i did.calisto helped with with color choice and a nice bullet tutorial.

#197

Nice characters warpy. You were able to keep that comic feel to them. Sky seems to contrast a bit with the rest of the style, maybe a comic type full moon or drawn in clouds / stars could help.

Keep rockin
