this is great ! congrats man

Beautiful work! The matte paining also brings a lot more depth to your piece. Great composition, cool clouds.

My only crit would be that maybe you could have exaggerated the area around the eyes/brows a little more. Now it feels a little bit flat. If you made the eyes a little larger and brows fuller, he would look even more menacing. But excellent work, man!

Can’t wait to get my hands on Mudbox when it is released.

ROCK ON! :buttrock:

WOOOW!! I really like the character. And the environment, no words, great job!

#66

very good, congratulation, nice work!!

I love it.
Would you be so kind as to provide some insight behind the rock surfaces? Of course it’s all amazing but for some reason I’m intrigued by the rocks in the foreground. Those have to be some of the most realistic rocks I’ve seen in 3d.

Astonishingly awesome!

wow! thanks so much for all of the comments. I’ve posted a wire of the scene, it is a little hard to see im some areas, but hopefully it’ll help

the rocks were low res meshes in maya that I sculpted in Mudbox, so what you see in the wire is the hi-res from mudbox…really, nothing fancy, just a sculpted hi-res mesh.

the orc was also heavily suclpted in mudbox and then i imported the hires into the scene to render. you can see the orc wireframe much better on my website click here

texturing was done with photoshop and bodypaint. I rendered in mental ray with an HDRI, Final gather, 1 main area light, 2 spot lights for rim lights and one more spot light for fill. I used Mental Rays fast skin shader for the orc and he was comprised of 4 color textures to get the skin looking right.

the background was all 2d matte painting that I did in photoshop.

cheers

oh and a shaded view for anyone interested

#71

thats amazing! How ddi you get the cloth to follow the character rig when posed? You dont use simulation programs like Syflex do you? Could you go indept on how to create the skin? Oh, and btw, you didnt use any global illumination?

#72

cool pic, totally rockin’ character

.

#73

the cloth was modeled after he was posed…no cloth sim or anything like that.

the skin is quite a long process…if you go to this link i talked about how I used the shader with another character of mine and it is essentially the same thing with the orc. It is the MISSS thread in the Maya Rendering section. start at that page and read through that and the few pages following it. http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=163360&page=57&pp=15

there was GI in the scene, I used an HDRI to light the scene and turned final gather on in the globals

cheers
