The scene is nice, i’ll give a try

#3

To do:

  • assign materials to books
  • add curtains
  • fix texture seams
  • sculpt pillows
  • add fur to carpet

#4

Just for my curiosity - I’m interested in hearing some efficient methods of assigning hundreds of materials and textures to books in the scene. I knew of a way in 3ds Max, but am mostly a Maya person nowadays so I think it could be enlightening to see how differnt people approach it.

This is a beautiful scene and I am still pushing to get those shadows and the wood reflection/refraction as close as I possibly can.

My one hiccup is getting the curtains see through enough. :banghead:

#7

No idea why!?

#8

I have the max scene I can share with texture for the book included if anyone need it. about the last post probably it can depend on normals of the curtain and ceiling. Try to flip them of just add a “shell” modifier. I don’t understand why but while exporting sometime you have flipped normals on obj. it should do the trick

#9

that would be awesome if you do. i have tried to use the random mat id and multi texture scripts in conjunction but i really don’t like the result.

will post something soon.

#10

a few hours and I will post the max

#11

Thanks Mate!

#12

Giorgio I really like this scene thanks.

@jobim awesome Start it has a nice feel the wood is a nice texture for this as well

@MrBobble Super cool. maybe some more fun detail in there? Just a thought its nice though

Alright im going to take a different approach to this challenge. I want to focus more on lighting and sculpting the light than just these arch vis types of renders. Hopefully we can get a challenge going here soon to add that element. so here is is. Its got a bunch more work to be done but the comp and lighting are in the right direction. No HDRI. 6 lights in the scene over all. 4 Spot lights and 2 area lights. Maya and Mental ray

I feel like destroying the whole room and do a really gritty and abandoned looking scene, lets see if my laptop can handle it. It is already struggling with the scene as is.

@preston, That’s one funny looking car :buttrock:

#14

max file added !

#15

Where is the link? It seems to be the 2 Jun file.

#16

Sorry !
Now the link should work
Giorgio

#17

you are the man!
GREAT!!!

Just few words…Let us DO NOT CHANGE VIEW ANGLE, please!
If we start we changing view angle, we’ll make rubish of challange.
So ONE view angle, and varies of renders!
Ok?

#18

check the FIRST post, dude
the scene is already uploaded, even w/mat, etc… no need to do it again
BestR!!!

#19

need to fix the three hotspots/hot pixels

work on the glass and the books needs proper textures unless i decided to use the new max scene.

this took 12 hours to render at moderate setting and even then the quality is poor :argh:.

  1. I downloaded the obj scene one week ago
  2. I use maya
  3. I like creating my own materials and textures
