Layer Question!need help

#1

Hello.
Ok i have a really short question. I have queit a lot layers in photoshop. so lets say layer one has a white object or something (doesnt matter for now) on it. And on the top layer I have a colored gradient. So the question is how do I say photoshop that the colored gradient layer shall just take effect on the ONE layer beneath it and not all other layers which are beneath these 2 layers???
May be there is a trick or a shortcut for this problem??

THX a lot Manny

Hey Manny, this is pretty simple, actually. In the Layers palette, make sure the gradient layer is just above the white layer. Then, with the gradient layer selected, choose “Create Clipping Mask” from the menu in the Layers Palette.

or alt-click between the layers for a shortcut.

THX a lot guys! I tried the masking and the “alt” thing already, but in my specific picture both didnt quiet work. So deleted the gradient layer, merged all layers together which needed the gradient and used a gradient overlay in the layer option one that one layer and now it works. But still thanks for the hints:applause:
