It looks like you have a butterfly in progress for your background (if it’s supposed to be a bird, oops!). Why not a small scattered flock of the birds or butterflies that wrap around her?

Oh, and I agree about the suggested changes…especially the feet.

Add some faint cloud puffs/streaks, if you decide to puffen the rest of the cloud up, I think they’d look great.

Iridescent looks like it’d be hard to pull off, but you seem to be on the way there. More yellows and purples, I guess :3

#643

Finally an update! I opted for hummingbird-ish birds…I also added a necklace and flower “crown” and I tried to correct some of the anatomy issues. Better? Anything still bugging you?

tatiana: Heck, I’m not sure what it was supposed to be. But, I like the idea of birds rather than butterflies just because it seems like I did a piece with butterflies not too awful long ago.

eishiya: Thoughts on the wispy overlay layer of cloud so-far? Yeah, I haven’t tried to do anything further in the iridescence department yet.

#644

The birds and clouds are wonderful. The feet are great too, but I think the lower one is still a bit off… but I’m terrible with feet myself, I’m not sure what it is. Maybe the side of it is too flat or something, I’m not sure. The folds by her nose, I think they should be lighter and perhaps more saturated? They look too deep now and she looks older. Could be just me though x_x

#645

eishiya: Glad you like the birds and clouds. I think I kinda see what you mean with the lower foot, though I’m really not sure what it needs to fix it. I’ll see about the depth and saturation of the skin folds…

#646

The birds are beautiful an I think the new foot is much better. Just looking at her face, I think hte mouth is off a tiny bit - it doesn’t quite match the angle of her eyes. I love the filmyness of er dress and I love the fact that the birds are so irridescent

No, I haven’t given up on Little Miss Cloud Girl, I just got a start on my next book cover project today. It’s a wrap design, the right side goes on the book’s front, the left goes on the back. Which composition do you find most attractive?

Wildkine: Probably. I’ll see what I can do about the mouth.

#648

i’m for #4. there’s a real opportunity there to show your skills. plus it sends a much clearer idea and both characters are in active participation.

#649

I rather like 1 and 4. 6 looks like it could be pretty as a separate painting, but as a book cover I don’t think it’d grab attention.

#650

I feel like I’m at a bit of a stalemate with the birds and girl image. Any suggestions?

Salubri3i: I do see what you mean. I don’t know if #4 conveys the appropriate action for the Bishop (back figure) though…

eishiya: Yeah, #6 is basically an alternate version of the scene, involving lines of power rising from the earth, where they form an X right where the character is sitting. While I agree its interesting, I do think it would make a rather odd book cover.

I’m still awaiting the opinions of the author and publisher, so we’ll see.

So I decided to participate in some Daily Sketch topics. I’m thinking along the lines of killing two birds with one stone by practicing child anatomy and fitting the topics. The last two have been perfect for that:

“Pure” 35 min:

“Early Spring” 60 min:

#652

this is some beautifull work you have in here

#653

Still waiting on word from the author. This daily sketch took 60min …the topic: “Rain”

ravenslayer: Thanks!

#654

This last one’s one of my favorites, very nice work.

#655

Totally quoted. I love the idea of a 'light-rain" plus the child has got an intense expression!

#656

All pumped up for another day of painting. I’ve got tons of art things going on, the problem is I want to get to them now. Prehaps a bit later I’ll post something visual

aldog: I like it too

CyborgJA: Thanks girl!

#657

I started this one yesterday. I spent a a good many hours today on the beginnings of the blooms and the branches. Essentially I painted 8 different views of the cherry blossoms and then cut and pasted until I was throughly sick of it. Sigh I wish Photoshop had full color brushes! I know things are still kinda rough around the edges. Have you guessed what this is (another) attempt at?

#658

Someone’s not too sure about their cloud layout? xP

Great work here, your knowledge of child proportions amazes me. Kids scare me so I can never paint them right.

My only suggestions are to add some reflections from the pink and blue on her hair (the hair looks like it should be very tight and smooth around her head), and to make some of the larger blossoms smaller. Sakura blossoms aren’t quite as large in real life as they are in the Japanese woodcuts, anime, and especially fanart. Sme anime fanart makes them HUGE xD;

#659

eishiya: Well I’m not saying I am and I’m not saying I’m not, but… ;p Kids scare me too, that is why I’m making myself paint so many. Yes, I will bounce a bit more light around ) on her hair among other things) as I progress. Point taken on the size of the flowers. I guess I ended up exaggerating the size so that they were easier too see when I zoomed out. I’ve still got to figure out how to give it all more depth.

Hey Laura, I like how your latest pic is going! Very pretty, great colors. I think removing the two branches behind the girl’s head would free up that space around there and enable us to focus more clearly on her- right now that entire area is too busy and it’s hard to focus on any one area.

Also, I like the close up more than the full version. Are you going to put something in the bottom of the full version though?
