Forgive me, I am a beginner to 3d modeling. After being lurking watcher in the forums for quite a while I’m giving this a try. I started out with a program called anim8or and then moved on to blender after spending some time searching for learning material. This is my first character ever modeled, he is based on a trading card picture I found via terraearth.com.

If this is the beginning of your 3D career it’s not so bad. But you should check out www.blendercookie.com and see their female modeling series or some of their other free videos that covers head modeling. The female modeling series I think will help you a lot.
