Hello guys, new peace 70%~ done, at start it looked really good for me but after some time its not so great, any ways that could help me improve this peace?

There are some really big readability problems with this image.

I can’t tell what I’m looking at, since it’s not making sense visually based on the values and the forms portrayed. Is this a city carved onto the side of a cliff face? It looks very flat, as if the buildings are just flat 2D pictures painted onto the cliff face, instead of actual buildings with mass and volume and forms.

The darkest values at the bottom of the cliff looks strange too. Are they cast shadows or form shadows? They currently look like neither and it’s very confusing.

The slanted cast shadow at the top that cuts across the buildings looks very flat too, and doesn’t conform to the forms of the buildings.

Hey man. I can clearly see what your inspiration was from, and to complement Robert’s ^ advice. I will throw some that he gave me last time.
I see the carved cities, they are really beautiful and some gems in our world, but if you’re just replicating them, ‘you’ll be just a guy who draws and paints pictures’. Add a story of your own.

On a technical side, the city looks carved in there. It’ll help if you can quickly sketch a perspective volume on some building blocks in the front, shade them too.
Also add atmospheric perspective layers for extra believability. GL!

hello you mean i was copying someone? if i understand right? if yes that you are wrong i didn’t had any inspiration from anyone it was my original idea, it started like town in desert/mountain later i remaked location to beach. after critique and i tried to fix peace you can see finished one on my profile. and story line goes about shepherd who travels around world, in "shepherd 2 he reaches coast line, peace3 he finds this city, peace4 would be how walks away from coast because storm comes( not sure yet about next ep)

If the city is abandoned Id paint the power of the painting not the picture. see through your characters eyes looking up at a vast village.

Otherwise add some history to it not just the carved city but the hints of who they were and what is left behind.

or try populating it have a kid meeting the man on the beach move the camera tell me the story by the look and contrast on their face.

most paintings I see in portfolios are a lot like this. I never care to much about painting skill as much as the story telling and by story telling I mean move away from a man standing with a cane sword or whatever with a landmass or building in the background. Move in more intimate show me the expression character interaction between your hero and his subject.

hope this helps looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

thank you for replay, yes this peace is not strong. i was mostly giving priority to rendering of the painting because i wanted to learn draw first(same with most of the works i have) . now i think its time to start add more work to story telling.
