Lag problem in Mudbox

#1

Hey all, I’ve been trying to use Mudbox 2011 for a while, but whenever I get up to a level around 4-5 or start using painting tools, there seems to be some noticeable lag (also when I select a new brush, there’s a pause for a moment.) I’m running it on an ATI HD4850 card - I’m pretty sure I updated the driver for it, but I can always have a second look. Just wondering if anyone else has run into Lag issues? Thanks

is it really necessary to paint in that high polycout…?
maybe extract a ao map to see whats going on and paint on level 2-3…

are you painting 4k maps…?
try to use more smaller maps instead…

Hey Oglu, thanks for the reply. I’m working on this head, its relatively low poly -

The maps I’m using are only 1k. Everytime I click the ‘clone’ button there’s a second or 2 of lag, then when I press down with the wacom pen there’s another couple of seconds of lag. I’m wondering whether its just a case of my spec being too low for Mudbox, or another problem.

I’ve got a 2.4 quad core processor with 4 gig ram, I was thinking this should be able to run it fine? :-S

the clone brush is really slow yes…
did you have problems with other paint brushes as well?

for cloning i use the texture itself as stencils…
