Krakatoa Issue - I keep rendering the same frame

#1

I was experimenting with FumeFx and Krakatoa 1.6, when I encountered this weird problem. What happens is that, after I’m done with partitioning, I create a PRT Loader in my scene and load up the partitions I’ve saved. Upon rendering a frame, all’s fine. Upon rendering a different frame…I see the previous one again.
To be more precise; no matter which frame I’m at on the timebar, Krakatoa will always render the first frame I rendered after creating the PRT Loader.

The files are all there, I can see the particles behave normally in the viewport, the graph on the PRT rollout confirms that their numbers are correct, which means that everything is fine. Still, I can render no other frame than the one I first rendered. Tried to open the PRT in a fresh file, still nothing though.

Does anyone have a clue about this? I’ve searched around a bit but found no reference to such an issue.

Hm, very weird. Do you have the problem with any other renderer? Posting the scene might also help.

If anything, I would suggest download and install the latest version. KrakatoaMX 2.0 has seen significant improvements with FumeFX integration.

Then see if the issue still exists. Not sure how but you may have written the first frame to every frame of the sequence. Can you confirm that there is actually variation in either the particles or the file sizes of the prt sequence?

Also, only out of curiosity, what method are you using to acquire Fume? PRT FumeFX or pFlow/TP?

If you could provide a simple sample scene (it doesn’t have to be the one you are working on just a similar setup) exhibiting the problem I would be glad to check it out.

Thanks for the reply guys, no I haven’t had this problem with another renderer, or with anything actually.
Yes, I can verify that Krakatoa’s files grow in size, and they also appear in the viewport via the PRT loader. To be precise about the workflow, I first created the fume sim, then translated it into PFlow particles, then partitioned these particles. Here’s the scene so far (minus the particle files of course, too many gigs).
The file is for max 2012, fumefx 2.1 and krakatoa 1.6, I haven’t saved the PRT loader in it, all the rest is there.

Ahh, you have pCache enabled! Just disable it and it will work as expected.

This is still the way it is, not sure it should work that way but I will inquire about it.

EDIT: I inquired and the answer is this is: (I prefer to quote to maintain the integrity of the answer  )

I suspected it would be something simple, but that was plain stupid of me! And it worked indeed.
A thousand thanks JR, you saved me from a sleepless night and a lot of headache! Now I’m finally watching my first 3 sec animation with Krakatoa, it’s a stunning renderer.

Things are only simple when they are obvious and not everything simple is obvious

That was a pretty cool sim btw nice motion

Spoken like a true Shaolin of CG  I’m very glad you like it! I’ll upload the result on youtube today at some point, this is my channel if you’d care to stop by and leave some feedback on the result: http://www.youtube.com/user/KeratsiniHombre
