Keyboard shortcut for repeating edge-loops

I’m fairly new to Blender and what I struggle most with are all the different key-shortcuts. In a tutorial some edge loops are inserted. For the first one I can see the shortcut on the screen (ctrl-R) but then another 8 loops appear and I can’t find out how that is done, i.e. which key is used for the repetition

If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse you move rotate it after you press ctrl+R. Don’t know if it’s possible without a scroll wheel.

I do have a scroll wheel, so thank you very much for the prompt and useful reply

Use either the scroll wheel on the mouse or the keyboard shortcut is the page up/down keys
