kaydara MotionBuilder 5

#1

I thinking about buying motionbuilder 5, wasn’t there a learning edition for $100 somewhere? Anyways, is it easier getting wings 3D models into motionbuilder?

Would I be able to animate, texture, and rig my wings 3D models with kaydara motionbuilder?

yes you would beable to animate your wings models form motionbuilder.

yes can you texture your model in motionbuilder BUT only if you already setup your UV’s Motionbuilder lets your apply materials to your models.

And yes you can and kinda have to rigg your model in motionbuilder.

As far as the ple version. im not sure you can still get it. unless you find and old digit mag with it. or something.

I would recommend you look into project messiah:

www.projectmessiah.com

i used both softwares and let me tell you right away messiah is a much better solution for animation than motionbuilder.

I can talk all day but its better to show:

download the animate demo

import your model as obj , go to setup mode , add a couple bones (items -> bone deform) , go to animate mode and move your model.

yes! , you dont need to paint weights in messiah

not to mention if you get studio (same price with MB5) , it comes with its own renderer so you can model in wings and animate render in messiah.

hope this helps

No offense but if you want your model to deform nice your going to have to do some tweaking of painting weights at some point. How exaclty does it know whats best for a specific model? Ive never used messiah myself so im not to famillar with it but its hard to believe it can do it for you the way you want it.

I just checked the messiah products,I’m impressed, really it looks excellent and it does have weight maps

crgowo

I dont blame you for being sceptic , i was too.

why dont you go ahead and download the messiah animate demo and see it for yourself.

Let us know how it turned out

and yes there is a weight painting feature too.

also check this video out :

as you will see in the video after he creates the autorig (you DONT need to use autorig by the way , it works just the same with the rigs you manually create) he goes to animate mode and the bones deform the geometry , check out the default deformation he gets and how clean it is.

still dont believe me ,

download the demo , import your own model and do what he does in the vid "

Sheep maybe i shoulda posted this over at the mayaMessiah thread but…

whilst i tried the demo and liked the nice bone deformations, i wonder about the rest of the character animation tools. Motionbuilder seems so much more advanced in this regard, its standard rig is really easy to animate and putting together shots is very fast.

Its a shame you cant get the best of both worlds, i.e. MB’s character tools and Messiahs rigging technology.

In the context of your statement, messiah is the best of both worlds. This isn’t to say flat out that messiah’s animation system is better than MB; I’m saying that messiah is a highly effective, highly prized animation system… hey it’s in the name… messiah:animate;).

I can say those messiah:animate 3 users that sought MB as a better option last year, have since returned and have been very happy with messiah:animate 4. But frankly, the better choice is really for you to decide. It’s quite possible that MB will be more appropriate for your workflow & mindset. It’s more important to us that you find the tools that suit you, rather than padding our pockets.

If you do decide to really explore the power of the messiah:animate 4 demo to see if it’s right for you, and if run into problems, don’t hesitate the post on the messiah forum. You’ll also get great help on the pmGmessiah yahoo group. There are many in the messiah community (including me) that are ready and willing to help. Most of the time, it will turn out to be a simple oversight because of the non-intrusive design of the messiah interface.

Good Luck on your choice!

Provide FBX support then we can really have the best of both worlds

Kaydara is more than open to work with pmG if they want to support FBX.

Lyle, simply contact me at mbesner@kaydara.com and I will be more than happy to get the ball rolling …

cheers !

I’m impressed by what I have seen by messiah. But not impressed enough to sacrifice the option to animate in MotionBuilder. If fbx support were added, I would definitely give messiah another look.

For the record: I’d buy Messiah Animate 4 today if it had FBX import/export. I like the Messiah interface and tools but I want the the bone information to move out of MA.
