#1

hey all just purchased modo but got afew questions

ok i’ve downloaded it and the lisence key zip file thing and i have run it but i still get some thing about i have 14 days to buy a copy thing - couldn’t find any otehr instructions other than to run it so i assume somethign i hinky somewhere

second where do i find the optiosn to make it look and feel like lightwave? i know i shouldn’t and shoudl learn “modo” but frankly i dont want to =) i want upgraded lightwave =D

third - well call me stupid but i go to create a box draw the tool out and then bang it there is nothign there =/ 5 secs in i’m stumped always a very bad sign

anyway hope someone out there can help at least until the manual arrives =)

rofl…you crack me up  . Are you refering to the Primitive Box tool?( never heard of a box draw tool)

hold Crtl + [L]click on the Box primitive = create a 1 unit square box.
if your draging the box, [L] click on the center mark, and drag to give it the final dimension.

[M] click,drag also does something

[R] click, drag to adjust the primitive haul division(its base on the active workplane)

good news i mananged to make a cube =) woot!!!

next thing i wanna know is where the add edge or cut tool is and where is the bridge tool??

#4

There is a basic bridge perl script floating about on www.vertexmonkey.com . Currently there isnt an offical bridge tool in modo.

#5

ok got it looking like lightwave now but i cant bring up the numeric panel =/ any ideas? i really want a pop up one not a permenant one

also how do i create a button for the bridge tool? - i never would ahve believed it could be made to look this much like lightwave its very customiseable clearly but i cant make heads nor tails of how to edit the interface =/

#6

one other thign why when i rotate somethign from the top view do it go hinkky? it shoudl only rotate in the one axis =/ and how about a mouse action center =/

#7

The best thing to do would be to sign into www.luxology.com and under registered products/modo there will be a 300MB-ish sized file with videos for each operation.

To create a button, see pages 61-122 in your manual as they will cover most of the above questions.

Cheers.

sadly i dont have the manual yet - just downloaded it - but i suppose it should be here in a day or so so i shouldn’t have to wait that long i guess

#9

I’m not entirely sure now but I think the pdf versions of manuals comes with the download. Check the Help menu in modo.

#10

Yup, the .pdf one should be floating around in your modo folder. As Para suggested, Help|Documentation|User Guide should open it as well.

Cheers.

ok found it and helping abit but i cant work out how to get the n key to pop open a window with the tool prperties in it it jsut changes the viewport i’m using into it =/ also ideally n key will get rid of the panel too - is this possible - or will i just have to abandon my lightwave workflow if i want to contine to use modo

#12

ok usinga macro doohicky i got one to come up with the p[ress of n but any way to get rid of it the same way? sort of a toggle on off? =/

Just my two pence worth,
But the manual seems a little odd. Maybe its a new approach to learning. But it does not work in sections its more of a tutorial with the same tutorials on the DVD.

After 2 days I’m finding it awkward,But I do love the application.

I agree. Not coming from a LW/Maya background, many of the tools are still mysteries to me and there seems to be little documentation on how/when to use them in projects. Although the interface and workflow seem to be designed to be friendly for the new user while still retaining the all the features for the power users, the documentation seems to require that the user already be familiar with basic, and sometimes not-so-basic, 3D workflows/concepts. I guess more tutorials are the answer.
Thanks,
Graeme
