Here is a concept sketch from one of my previous design doodles.
I spent about 30 min. on each drawing. So nothing fancy here, just trying to gather some ideas. I did some image googling on astronauts beforehand to get some inspiration.

I got all excited about astronauts from the previous speed sketches, so I actually sat down and tried to draw one myself. I didn’t do any previous sketches for this one, just jumped straight into Photoshop. About 1hr of work.

I took one of my silhouettes and did some quick render sketch on top. Spent about 1 hr over all, so it’s all pretty rough and unpolished, but hopefully gets the idea across.

Here are some speed sketches that I did yesterday. All done in Alchemy, I spent between 2-5 minutes per sketch.

I did a lot of experimenting during the past days with different brushes and work approaches, so quite a few sketches went straight to the waste bin. So it goes, but here are some that turned out OK.

Here are some paint overs from silhouettes I have done before. I am trying to incorporate another sketching phase into my workflow, so I can focus more on generating ideas before starting to render. Not that I dislike rendering, it just takes so freaking long.
I still find it very hard to work quickly during this concept stage; it’s just so tempting to move right into doing details.

Anyhow, here are some pics, all work was done in photoshop, about 4 hrs of work all in all.

I think GodZilla got it right: awesome! Great thumbs and workflow…you are really digging into the design process. What about a few non-bipedal characters? Would love to see you develop one of these further.

It’s been a while since I updated this thread. Lately I have been drawing more away from the computer, you know, with pen and paper and stuff. While I am really enjoying the speed and flow of working this way I noticed that I am incredibly lazy when it comes to scanning my work. I will force myself to scan my sketches more regularly from now on so I don’t end up updating this thread on an annual basis.

I have been doing a lot of life studies lately, mostly speed sketches where I clock myself to only spend 2 minutes per drawing. It’s a lot of fun and forces me to focus only on the important stuff.

The following drawings were all done with ink pen and black copic marker. The topic was love couples snugging, hugging, holding hands and all the good stuff. All the reference were taken from google and flickr, since I don’t have love couples snugging, hugging and holding hands around me all the time (although being single myself it certainly seems that way sometimes).

So here is an update on my studies on love couples. I started doing some character sketches for the girlfriend (she has no name at this point). I apologize for the harsh cut offs due to the scanning process; from now on I will make sure to stay away from the sketchbook borders.

I used mechanical pencil (colored and graphite), Inkpen and Markers. While I’m really liking my new sketchbook, the markers seem to think otherwise. Especially the copics bleed through the paper and across the ink borders.Ah well, I just gotta get used to it. I’m certainly not buying Copic paper; the markers are expensive enough as it is.

Cheers, I am trying my best to improve. It’s sometimes difficult to see my own progress, especially since I tend to see mistakes rather than improvements. Anyway, thanks for the input; it’s always appreciated.

I did some more quick studies today. I got some new reference images from my cousin and his girlfriend (who are a very cute couple by the way). In addition I took some more movie snapshots. All the doodles are done on paper with inkpen, 2 minutes max per drawing.

Here are some some life studies I did from various photographs found on the internets. I used mechanical Pencil (red) and ink pen on top, 5 min. spent on each drawing.
I have been doing alot of sketches during the past week and once again I have a pile of paper waiting to be scanned. I decided to only scan the drawings that I particulary like, because it simply takes too long to scan all these. Maybe one day I find a faster method to get these drawings into a digital format.
