Jonathan W. Rodegher sketchbook

#1

Haven’t been drawing in ages but now I’m coming back slowly. The blue ones are pretty much most of them done in the bus, in the way back home after work. There are some old ones too (at the bottom mostly). I’m open for any kind of critic, I need to push this skills which will help me improve my 3d too! cheers!

This is an old one, from this year actually. Made a 3d sketch for the background. I’ll finish this one someday.

Any feedback would be much apreciated! thanks for watching.

Developing a new char. Going for a more stylized approach though.

I still believe someone will have to comment something eventually, not giving up here, lol.

Oh that’s a shame nobody sent you any comment, 'cause many beautifull images you have here. Yes, yes  So let me been the first to comment your work and take the opportunity to say you : DON’T GIVE UP! If you look at my sketchbook I experienced very similar thing at the begining, you know, it’s not that big traffic here. Sometimes it’s hard to answer every single guy here. BUT, it’s like this, if you mean it seriously with drawing, you will keep up and you will find friends here sooner or later. So, if you enjoy it enough, nothing will stop you anyway.

And now some, lets say, constructive comments (I don’t know how much competent I am though) :

  1. you’re definitelly not absolute beginer for sure, your draftmanship has nice level right now and evidently you keep working to make even it better!
  2. you don’t mess with fancy colors and brushes but you keep with both of your legs on the ground.
  3. you practice anatomy and there you focus on form, that’s GREAT!

These 3 things above say for themselves, you’re on your good way up. I would suggest, if you don’t know it yet, http://posemaniacs.com/ That site is simply IT when it comes to practice draftmanship and anatomy together. The most versatile drawing exercise I’ve ever experienced, really. Life drawing is also great, but can be discouraging sometimes. So you can switch between these as you want.
Yeah, and some things like perspective, reading some good books (Andrew Loomis) and going through various tutorials on this forums and other similar ones.

Keep up buddy

Yeah I know. I’ve seen several threads which first answers are always from the OP. And that’s fine. My motivation is not up o the amount of replies in a thread.

I have seen posermaniacs way too long ago, I didn’t even remembered it anymore so thanks for that tip! And thanks for the (very positive) feedback too. If there’s anything you think I can improve, please feel free to share.

I’ve taken a glimpse at your thread, you got very interesting stuff in there. I’ll give you my feedback on some of them. One never knows where a very usefull comment could come from!

cheers!

Dude, let me tell you first that you are doing great! Seriously, it’s pretty rare to see people working the hard and smart way and not just trying to come up with some cool digital tricks to make them popular. Your sense of form and anatomy is pretty solid. What you need to do is to strengthen your lines and shading more toward better form explanation. These are, as I see them, an anatomy study. For that sake, don’t bother with hair, clothes, unless it’s part of the study and then really pay attention to make then look right. Otherwise, boxy figure with simple hatching should be well enough to practice the attitude towards form mastery. From my point of view you don’t really need any advices, maybe more encouragement because you are really good. Push and enjoy it even more, hard to say more. I’m sending my digital overlay with few hints that might explain my thoughts better. Don’t bother to make the woman look like a muscular man, exaggerate the form, the light, make it pop (in your head mostly, for it is a study).

Looking forward to more updates! CU

Thanks a lot for the encouragement siilon!

I’m taking a workshop with a teacher (this is her Abril Barrado that is really smart working, and she’s setting me in the right path.

In the case of the drawing you made a paint over, it wasn’t so focused on anatomy so the target was to put as much as possible. I do focus on anatomy in the anatomy workshop. I appreciate the paint over, I feel I can learn from it as well!

I’ll take note on the line and volume work you suggested, I’ll set my focus on that on time I keep working my anatomy! Thank you!
