Joints with falloff workflow

#1

What is the exact workflow of binding joints to a mesh using fields without baking weights?

#2

I rarely need technical help with C4D nowadays, but I’m stuck with this one.
Can someone help me with this?

#3

It doesn’t work. You’ll need technical help.

I can’t get it to work - I hope someone else can enlighten us.

#4

use a freeze layer on top of your field in the fields list.

#5

I copied these instructions - https://help.maxon.net/us/index.html#OFALLOFFOBJECT

Can’t get it to work at all.

Sorry @AdsovonMelk - not trying to hijack your thread. I think we’re in the same boat.

#6

Freeze layer doesn’t work either.
It seems like a bug to me.
I’ve just done my rig using FFD driven by joints.
It’s ok Kaptain_Kubrick, we’re all here to share.

#7

indeed, there’s a bug in r20 and r21… sorry, i didn’t test it. it should work as easily as adding a field to your joint and putting a freeze layer on top. you can work around that bug by making vertex map tags, having a field control the vertex map and dragging that vertex map into the vertex map slot in the weight tags joints list. not very elegant, but it works.

It doesn’t seem to work if you want to place your falloffs in the hierarchy.

Sorry - I can’t see where you have placed the vertex maps so that the weight map can read them?

Thanks.

#9

in the weight tag. select a joint the weight tags list, and at the bottom there‘s a maps slot.

#10

Ok - good to know.

Still no luck with putting them in the hierachy though - which is a little annoying.

Cheers.

#11

you can stop trying, it’s a bug.

Thank You guys for this investigation.
Fields have some bugs, especially in terms of refresh and priority, but this is completely new to me.
