Hello everybody.
I just started my work day browsing through my old sketchbook thread and it got me a bit misty-eyed. I really can’t thank you guys enough. Where would I be without the help I got here.

Most of my time painting now days is spent at work and as I can’t publish any of it I haven’t posted much. Just thought I’d do a quick update.
I got a permanent job at Sulake and doing pixel art here has been pretty great. I still try to improve my comic and 3d skills, and I still kind of dream of being a comic book artist at Marvel someday. I have limited time to draw at home as my daughter is old enough to cause some serious mayhem, but I think I’ll survive
The studies at GamePro are going nicely too. It’s clear that the program is mostly directed to coders, but I’m getting to know a lot of other people there who also work in the game industry, which is great.

Anyways, just bumped into the heart warming things some of you guys have said to me during the last 5 years and wanted to say something about it.

Thanks vicmonty and Manaia! That’s exactly what I was talking about. God you guys are awesome :3

Hey Jho

Wow it’s been ages since I visited (been far too tied up with work and life for my own good…)
You’re a proud dad! Congratulations that is fabulous! :applause: And you got a job… :buttrock: and your work is jumping along in leaps and bounds! :arteest: So great to see, I’m glad I finally found my way back here to say hello!

Frejasphere: Always a pleasure. Glad to hear from you, I haven’t visited your sb in ages either.

Someone suggested this one site where you can draw croquis http://lovecastle.org/draw/. It’s pretty great, and I’ve spent some time there now that school is over and I don’t get my weekly dose. It’s drawing from pictures, not from life, so it’s not as good but at least I’m drawing something. I try to get a scanner working soon, but for now here’s the only think I can post. One of the pictures I was drawing 1 per minute. Just decided to paint this one a bit further, I’m not sure if I’ll continue working on it, it’s not supposed to be anything other that just a study.

Hi Jho

Nice work on the life drawing pose above  I had a look at the website - there’s heaps there - and what a great way to do quick sketches (especially with the timer function)

cheers and take care

Frejasphere: It’s a great site, I love it too
Thanks again for visiting and hope you’ll have nice holdays.

For some reason I went and promised I’d paint a Christmas card for my in-laws this year, and now I have this huge monkey on my back. It’s featuring my daughter and her cousin, so it’s not allowed to suck too bad, both mothers would kill me D:
Also I have very little time, well, here’s what I’ve got done so far (my daughter Auroora is on the left and her cousin Stella is the smaller one on the right):

Updating the Christmas card thing:

Hey there…Jho.:wavey: …Merry Christmas…and I hope you have a great and inspired New Year ahead of you…

I checked out that site that you posted above…Some great stuff for refference in there…Thanks for posting that…That model study posted above came out great by the way

On your latest,…the baby’s…In a two figure composition,…You might want to make one of the figures more dominant in the composition…through the use of color/lighting ect…so as they don’t compete for the same amount of attention as the viewer see’s them…Doesn’t have to be anything drastic,…just some subtle lighting and muted color to brighter color shifts from the dominant focal point in the composition in relation to the secondary focal point…Hope that helps some…
Take Care

Hi there,

the baby’s proportions are off in the last piece.
The head should be bigger and the torso shorter.
The head of my 13months old son who is walking around my chair here is about 1/4 of his whole length, for example

Also, you tend to flatten your forms with a black outline, which is ok sometimes if you aim for a cartoony effect, but if you want a 3D effect, you can avoid the flattening by avoiding black outlines and softening edges here and there.

That link to the drawing script website is awesome, thanks for that!

Anyway, your persistence is really encouraging, so thanks for sharing.
Have a great year in 2012!

Hey Jho  Happy New Year!

I’m sure you made family very happy with the Christmas card - babies can be hard to get right with their big heads and different proportions compared to adults - especially when under pressure and from (I assume) a photo… I think you’ve made a great start, especially with your daughter - I love the way you’ve painted her looking up, very cute  They’ve both got lovely names too… :wavey:

All the best and take care

Frejasphere: Heh, New Year, has it already been that long that I last visited here? Thank you and hope you also had a nice New Year

I got my new demo reel finished and sent it to the guys at Frozenbyte, who might have a job opening for me. I posted it last night and have been just terrified since. It’s going to be really challenging to try to hone my (animating) skills in my free time, if I don’t get the job. I guess I’ll find a way, but it would just be a dream come true if I got the job.
