I have this dream to in my spare time work on a short animated story of mine.
Needles to say that the spare time is in fact quite smaller then I imagined in the beginning of this plan. Anyway, after struggling with the main character for quite a while. I decided to work on a secondary character of the story. Hopefully I will have a clearer picture in my head of the hero after this one.

I sculpted this guy in 3DC, before I continue on the details and retopo I wanted to check what the experts think about it.

Thanks, Robert

EVen if you character is stylized your arms are too long.

You plan to concept in 3D? you better start with 2D concept, will be less painfull and you will have more wedges of characters design to choose from.

Thanks Samuel

I know what you are saying about coming to a concept, the point is that my drawing skills are almost non existent. I’m learning how to draw properly now, so there is some hope for me. I had doubts about the arms, but you made it more clear to me. I made the arms shorter, but now there seems something missing there; I might enlarge the hands a tiny bit.

Thanks a gain for helping.

Nice character so far! ItÂ’s a little hard to give feedback without knowing a little more about your intentions though. For example, are you aiming for realism or stylized?

For concept art, you mentioned you’re not strong in the drawing area but you could still put together mood boards and get lots of references to help you figure things out. You mentioned that this is for an animated short, even if you can’t draw very well, story boards and/or an animatic would probably be a good idea before you start animating stuff.

As for the model, the arms look a little bit thin to me (especially at the wrists). When compared to the rest of the character, he looks fairly chubby overall except his forearms and hands (in the front view especially). I would make them a bit thicker.

Also, I donÂ’t know if itÂ’s on purpose, but his face has a very surprised expression. I think itÂ’s the arched eyebrows.

Yah If you go for the dwarf type of character, you should try more “chubby” type members.

Find some good refs. Always need refs man
