Is this the best messiah can do ?

#1

hi folks,

i got a “problem”. i have a mesh with 3 tri´s and i´m wondering why it looks so crappy. i mean, is the renderer so bad? even blenders renderer can handle tris better.
ps: i have already turned on “pre generated Polygons”

n-drew, it’s not so much the tri’s as it is “stars”, where more than 4 splines intersect. Pre-generated polys was supposed to address this issue - but unfortunately it doesn’t. This has been brought to pmG’s attention. But, there has been no feedback as to when this will be addressed.

Probably not what you want to hear … but most have used bump (displacement) maps to minimize the creases during renders.

I know it is being worked on, I just don’t have a timeline. I’ll post more info when a solution is in place.

Just an update: a solution for the creasing has been found, but it’s going to take more research to prevent additional RAM/rendertime hits (so far, so good). While it’s unlikely that the solution will make it in the next patch, we can’t exactly rule it out, either. We’ll keep everyone posted on when the solution will be available.

That sounds great Lyle. If it does require a little more RAM and rendertime, would it be possible to have this new solution as another Render Geometry option, like it is currently is now with parametric and pre-generated.

Cheers,

If the hit is significant, we’ll most certainly have to add it as an option. Thanx for the suggestion:)
