Is this normal?

#1

Well this is my second post since joining a couple hours ago…

No, that’s not the question, I just thought I’d mention that.
I do realize I have to be approved for posting before my posts will “stick”. So here I am, using my second post to ask a question…

I created my user name and put in all the details and all that, but when I log in I use my user name, and some pages greet me by my that user name, while other pages greet me by my “real” name.

Is that normal? Now I find myself wondering what people will see under my posts, but of course I can’t see that until my posts actually post. Feels like I’m talking to myself now so I probably ought to end this here.

Y’all have a great day.

No that’s ok, I really didn’t want an answer anyway.

If I click on the “Home” link or the “Upgrade your account” link, I get greeted with my real name. So far everywhere else on this site I get greeted with my user name.

Is that supposed to be like that or did I screw up something when registering? I want to buy a CGS membership, but not before fixing it if my account is somehow faulty. I’m assuming this is just the way it’s done here, but I’ve never seen that before on a forum, to be greeted with different names depending on what page I’m on.

#3

Awesome! So I don’t have to answer this one then?
Thanks you’ve made my day.

#4

This is the kind of welcome you give new members?

I wasn’t trying to be sarcastic, just having some fun. You’re a forum leader. Perhaps you could direct me to someone who can answer my question if you don’t mind?

No, you’re in the right place. But to tell you the truth I’m not sure what your question is. If you look at your post … to the left (where your avatar is) you’ll see your name as it appears on the forum. At the top right of the forum you’ll see your name as it appears in the welcome message “Welcome back [your name here]!”

So, if you see your name appear somewhere on the forum … that’s how it’ll appear on that particular page. Not everyone sees the same page you do though. For example: the top right welcome message is different for each user. Where you’d see “Welcome back [your name here]!” … I see “Welcome back Kirt!”

So what’s the question that I can help you with, without you loosing patience in the system and getting all cute and funny?

Thank you for your reply, Kirt. Let’s start off fresh, please. I apologize for any negativity I may have conveyed.

At the top right of this forum, and all other forums here, I see “Welcome back, Number 7”.
At the top right of the Home page and the “Upgrade your account with CGS membership” page I see, “Welcome back, Mick Stevens”.
And in the profile info to the left of my forum posts I also see my user name, and my real name, just as everyone else’s is.
It just seems strange, because like I said, I’ve never seen that in a forum before.

Well, is this a concern for you that your real name is displayed on the forum? We do ask members to submit their real name because of the way the galleries display the artists’ work. When an image is uploaded a footer strip is added that has copyright info for the protection of the artists’ work.

Many of the other pages where you receive a greeting with your real name is just because that’s the way the page was set up. I suppose we could change it to display a user name or change all the other pages the opposite to display real name. But I don’t think anyone has felt it to be a serious issue since the info is displayed only to the user who is currently logged on.

No, that’s fine, I don’t mind.
As I said, it just seemed unusual. I belong to a number of vbulletin based forums and I’ve never had two separate greetings on the same account. Just made me wonder if that was normal.
OK, I’m good to go now. Thank you for your response.

No problem. For future reference … don’t expect immediate response if you post near the weekend. Sometimes we see them, sometimes they just have to wait until we’ve relaxed over the weekend.

Welcome to CGTalk. :wavey:
Sorry if I was too harsh earlier.
